Adele Nicoll is perhaps best known for competing at the Winter Olympic Games.
A talented shot-putter, she was training during lockdown in a Cardiff park when she was spotted by British bobsledder Mica McNeill. The duo teamed up to make history, claiming Britain’s first two-woman World Cup medal for 13 years. Selected as a reserve for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Adele made the big decision to switch from brakewoman to pilot.
And in 2026, she headed to the Milan-Cortina Games, competing as Britain’s first ever female athlete in the monobob. She also piloted the two-woman bobsleigh alongside Ashleigh Nelson.
Yet Adele’s sporting journey is rooted in athletics and she is a rare talent that switches between summer and winter sports. She started out as a multi-eventer but, at the age of 15, became a specialist in the shot put.
Her first GB international call up when she was 16 when she was picked for the World Youth Championships, giving her a taste of life as an elite athlete.
She can also boast a bronze medal from the European Under 23 Throws Cup, reaching the finals of the European Juniors and World Youth Championships. She has more than 24 Welsh titles and Welsh records at under 15, under 17, under 20 and under 23.
The Commonwealth Games has always been on her wish-list and her dream came true in 2022, competing in Birmingham. She now wants to add a second Commonwealth Games to her already impressive CV.
