Coaching Qualifications Overview

Whether you’re new to coaching or leadership, aiming to run your own group, or interested in trying something new, there’s a course for you. Our programme offers a mix of online, in-person, and flexible learning options, so you can fit training around your schedule and learn at a pace that suits you.

You can also buy vouchers to help cover the cost of coaching courses—ideal for supporting members of your club or organisation, or as a practical and thoughtful gift.


New to coaching or leading?

Athletix Activator

A Fun Introduction to Run, Jump, Throw

Athletix Activator is our a brand-new recreational athletics programme designed especially for children aged 4–12 who are new to the sport or who want to enjoy athletics in a fun, relaxed environment.

Coaching Assistant

An introductory course to coaching athletics through running, jumping, and throwing activities. On completion, you’ll be able to support the delivery of coaching sessions under the guidance of a qualified coach.

Leadership in Running Fitness

Well suited to those leading groups of recreational or beginner runners, whether within an affiliated running or athletics club or a Run Wales group. This qualification also provides the insurance needed for you to lead sessions.

Athlete to coach

An intensive training programme designed for senior athletes who have represented GB&NI or a Home Nation. It enables them to achieve the Athletics Coach qualification while building on the knowledge and experience gained throughout their athletics career.

Coaching support for teachers

Welsh Athletics offer schools  a broad range of resources and programmes, with both online training modules and face-to-face workshops available for teachers in primary and secondary schools.


Already a qualified coach or leader?

 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Anyone with a wealth of coaching experience and knowledge in athletics or other sports can enter the coaching pathway directly at an appropriate level. HERE

Athletics Coach

Aimed at supporting coaches working with athletes in the foundation to Event Group Development Stages. HERE

Athletics Coach Additional Elective Modules

Additional modules aimed at a qualified Athletics Coach who wishes to undertake an additional event group elective (Speed / Endurance / Jumps / Throws). HERE

Event Group Jumps

Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years). HERE

Event Group Throws

Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years). HERE

Event Group Sprints and Hurdles

Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years). HERE

Event Group Endurance

Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years). HERE

Coach in Running Fitness

Designed for those who want to get involved in coaching runners (over the age of 12) who take part in non-track based activities. HERE

Fell, Hill, Off Road and Trail Module - Leader

For those who have completed the standard LiRF and who now wish to lead groups safely on more challenging terrains and more remote areas. HERE
