Welsh National Winter Long Throws Championships 2026
In 2026, we will be hosting our very first Welsh Athletics National Long Throws Championships for athletes from juniors right through to senior ranks.
Held at Ron Jones Stadium - Aberdare, this new pilot championships will take place over one day and will crown winter season champions across discus, hammer, javelin and seated shot put.
Athletes have traditionally missed out on competing during the winter season due to the restrictions of indoor athletics arenas. This event will give the opportunity for national champions to be crowned in the long throws throughout winter, giving athletes an exciting early season opportunity to gain Commonwealth Games, senior and age group championship standard. This will give younger athletes in particular a taster of what a national championship environment is like, preparing them for the bigger competitions of the summer season.
