‘We were all very surprised to hear this news this morning. It is disappointing but we, as one of 72 Commonwealth Games Association’s, will now support the CGF, as will all the other Commonwealth nations I’m sure.
CEO of Welsh Athletics, James Williams shared:
"It’s disappointing to hear the news this morning, the Commonwealth Games holds a special place for Welsh Athletics, it’s the only opportunity to see the red vest of Wales on the World stage. We will continue to work closely with Commonwealth Games Wales , to ensure our athletes can prepare in the best way possible to compete in the 2026 Commonwealth Games, wherever the new location will be.”
Team Wales also shared they will remain focused on the Trinbago Youth Games which will take place in under three weeks’ time, where 38 athletes across four sports compete against 71 nations across the Commonwealth, which will see 11 Welsh athletes competing in athletics.
