Masters 10km International - 5 May 2024 - Round-Up

08/05/2024 00:00, I Mewn Blog /

The first of this year’s Masters Road Internationals was held within the Great Birmingham Run 10km and a small team (compared to England’s huge team) turned up in Centenary Square, Birmingham on the most beautiful morning of the year so far!  The Team competition was in 5 year age groups with Wales having teams of 4 from ages 35 through to 65+. Whilst Wales were never going to trouble England in the overall Team result, we did manage to get amongst the individual medals with some great runs on an undulating course.

Tom Roberts, Meirionnydd was first home for Wales finishing second overall in the race and in his M35 category. This was the first time Tom had competed in a Masters international and his second place was made even more special as his wife Elliw Haf, Eryri was also running for Wales (whilst Tom’s parents looked after their two boys).

Two other men medalled, Matt Edmonds, Newport managed to secure third place with a sprint finish in the M40 category whilst Joe Thomas, Pontypridd(M45) and Huw Evans, Parc Bryn Bach (M50) both just finished outside of the medals in 4th place.

Niki Morgan, Chepstow had a great run storming away in the second half of the race to win the W55 category by nearly a minute AND Nic Jukes also picked up a Bronze medal in the W50 category.
