Online Introduction to Mentoring: A guide to developing volunteers

Workshop Aim:

So much of the delivery of our sport relies on recruitment and development of  Volunteers. In order to support new volunteers to develop, and be successful in their respective roles, mentoring from an informal( or formal) point of view is vital to the sustainability of our sport. This two part workshop will help introduce/ develop knowledge, skills, and tools to become an effective mentor, in order to help recruit and develop the right coaches and leaders at the right time.

 

Objectives:

  • You will have an increased knowledge and understanding of  the key elements of effective Mentoring
  • You will develop your self awareness and an understanding of others and significantly improve your interpersonal skills, thereby being able to confidently support your Volunteers
  • You will develop practical mentoring skills that help you build relationships and rapport including; observation, active listening, body language and questioning techniques with the use of role play
  • You will develop an understanding of the mentoring process and life cycle

 

These workshops will be led by Mostyn Richards. Mostyn Richards is a former schoolteacher of 18 years, a former Welsh Rugby Union Elite Performance Manager of 5 years, a former PT USW Lecturer of 5 years and a USW Mentor for the past 8 years. He is the current USW Mentoring Programme Coordinator and has a wealth of experience in sport, education, business and life.
