This years Conference and Awards Weekend will be held on Saturday 5th March and Sunday 6th March, between 10am and 4:30pm both days following on from the #inspire Virtual Coaches Conference which is happening between 28th February and 4th March.
The National Clubs and Run Wales Conference will take place on the Saturday, with inspirational speakers and an array of topics discussed. From supporting mental health and to how to build positive environments within your club or group, safety in running and a community panel, this exciting and positive weekend will bring everyone back together.
Back by popular demand is Lloyd Ashley; Osprey's Rugby Player and Director at Living Well with Lloyd Ashley.
Lloyd is a professional rugby player for the Ospreys with over 140 appeareances. He is a Young Peoples Ambassador for Hafal, lead for mental health & wellbeing for the Welsh Rugby Players Association and director of Livin well with Lloyd Ashley. Living Well with Lloyd Ashley has been set up to promote mental health awareness, support school and sport mental health programs, educate first aid for mental health and to promote more positive well being in the work place. His experiences on and off the field will provide our clubs with real life examples of how to create a more positive environment around mental health and well being in a sporting context. |
Another fantastic speaker will be Chris Davies from Lliswerry Runners, who was the Treasurer and now the Chair, and also helped to create 3 Parkruns within Newport.
“I’ve been a runner for over 40 years & joined Lliswerry in 1988. Loving the club vibe, I became Treasurer and then Chair, totalling 29 years. Recognising that parkrun would stimulate club membership, I led the creation of the 3 parkruns in Newport and later became parkrun’s Ambassador for Wales. Coaching and event management in running and triathlon provide me with immense satisfaction as does being an Event Adjudicator.” |
Johanthan Tidball also joins the panel of speakers. Hailing from Ogmore Phoenix Running Club, he has many qualifications which contribute to the sport.
''Johnathan Tidball is a Leader in Running Fitness with #JustRunPenybont and is a member of Ogmore Phoenix Running Club. He is a qualified Mental Health First Aider and also a VI Guide Runner. Jonathan started running in January 2018 and has been heavily involved since''. |
Contributing to the day too will be Chris Jeynes from Bridgend Athletics Club. Chris is a fantastic asset to their club, giving up a lot of his time to coach many young athletes from the ages of around 7.
''In 2019 my son started training with the Bridgend Athletics and I couldn’t just stand on the sidelines so I offered a helping hand. I soon became more involved with the club, drawn in by the energy of the athletes. You’ll find me at Run Jump Throw and Combined Event sessions. I’m at most competitions too (normally with cake). And I organise some inter club competitions and some club social events''. |
During the evening of Saturday 5th March, the annual Awards Dinner will take place. This is always a fantastic event and a brilliant opportunity to celebrate our incredible sport.
Sunday will hold the Officials Conference, with on and off track discussions on offer and an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge.
Supporting our officals conference will be Simon Jones, who has been involved in disability sport for over 18 years.
“I have been involved in Disability Sport for 18 years with several roles that include Coaching, DSW Development Officer, DSW Tutor and Assessor and a Learning Consultant. Inclusion was the at core of every role I had within DSW and I am looking forward to discussing the great ways in which Welsh Athletics are creating a competition structure for every Athlete. The session aims to increase knowledge and awareness of the needs of individuals with autism as well as drawing on the experiences of everyone within the workshop”. |
There will also be the opportunity to take part in a chatty social 5km, led by qualified LiRF Leaders on the Saturday morning at 9am, before the event kicks off!
