Welsh Duo Bethan Davies & Heather Warner named in GB Race Walking Team for European Championships

Bethan Davies (Cardiff Athletics) and Heather Warner (Pembrokeshire Harriers) will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady, Czech Republic on Sunday 21 May 2023.

Davies will compete over the women’s 35km race, where she finished 11 at last year’s European Championships in Munich. Whilst Warner will will contest the women’s 20km race walk. The Pembrokeshire athlete crossed the line in 13th position at the 2022 European Championships. It was a stellar year for Warner as she also moved up to fifth on the UK all-time list with a time of 94:02, which was set at the course in Podebrady.

"Congratulations to Heather and Bethan on their selections for the GB team at the European Race Walking Championships. They have been leading the way for female British race walking for a number of years and as well as performing to a very high level are also inspiring the next generation of Welsh walkers. Bethan Davies added:

"I'm thrilled to be selected to represent Great Britain & Northen Ireland at what will be my 5th European Race Walking Team Championships! Really looking forward to competing over the 35km and hopefully improving on my best. The addition of this second walks distance has provided welcomed parity, plus it means I get cheer on Heather who is representing in the 20km."

Heather Warner also added:

"So grateful and proud for the opportunity to race for Great Britain and Northen Ireland., I'm looking forward to an exciting race! And thank you to everyone who hashelped and supported me."
