Welsh Athletics is delighted to announce a new partnership with A.F. Blakemore and the SPAR brand in the name of inspiring the future generation of Welsh sporting champions.

This partnership will see the launch of eight Starting Blocs summer camps in South Wales. Each camp will be located in areas of deprivation including Aberdare, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfill, and South Cardiff.

To help support families with the current cost of living challenges, SPAR has committed to providing each participant with a free packed lunch for each session.

Powered by Welsh Athletics, Starting Blocs is a fun and exciting physical literacy program to introduce children to the sport of athletics. Children learn the key movement skills needed for a life in sport, in a safe and positive environment, through games that are designed to teach children the foundations of running, jumping and throwing.

Throughout our discussions, it was clear that SPAR shared our vision to improve physical activity in communities across Wales with a key focus on the next generation and in a summer when the world will be watching the best athletes compete at the Olympic Games.

 

We hope that our Starting Blocs summer camps will play a small part in enabling future Olympians to start their sporting journey, and in the process supporting the Welsh Athletics vision of Athletics for everyone, everywhere.

The Starting Blocs summer camps will take place on the following dates/locations and all children aged 4 – 11 are welcome to book on:

• 29 - 31 July, 9am – 3pm at Merthyr College
• 29 - 31 July, 10am – 3pm at Cardiff and Vale College, Butetown
• 5 – 7 August 9am – 3pm at Ron Jones Stadium, Aberdare
• 5 – 7 August - 10am – 3pm at Cardiff and Vale College, Butetown
• 12 – 14 August - 10am – 3pm at Cardiff and Vale College, Butetown
• 13 – 15 August - 9am – 3pm at CCB Athletics Hub, Caerphilly*
• 19 – 21 August - 10am – 3pm at Cardiff and Vale College, Butetown
• 20 – 22 August - 9am – 3pm at CCB Athletics Hub, Caerphilly*
