Welsh athletes Trail to victory in Forest of Dean Masters International

29/09/2025 00:00, I Mewn Blog /

The Forest of Dean Rotary Club put on a great community event and even booked some fantastic autumn weather that inspired Welsh athletes to some inspired performances in the fourth of this year’s Masters Internationals between Wales and England.

Wales picked up just under half of the top 3 places available, which is by far the best performance from the team this season. There were some terrific performances across all ages and sexes. In total there were seven first places; nine second places and six third places.

Mark Jennings, Mickey Morris Running Team, and Dave Warren, Caridgan  repeated their victories at the Swansea Half Marathon, whilst Mike Whyatt, Eryri picked up his third victory of the season. Amongst the women, Tracy Jenkins, Porthcawl, upgraded her third place at Swansea to a win, whilst Joanne Henderson, Denbigh, Linda Tyler, Farnham Runners, and Fiona Davies, Pontypridd all earned their first wins of the season.

Tom Roberts was first home for the men in 2nd place overall and 2nd M35, whilst Bethan Logan, Parc Bryn Bach was also second woman home, just a couple of second behind the race winner Katie Latham, England. Joanne Henderson, whilst the winner of the W45 category was also third overall in the women’s race.

Special mention should  go to Jeremy Mower, Western Tempo, who has competed in more of the Master Internationals over the past four years than any other athlete (15, which will become 16 at the Abingdon Marathon in October) finally won an individual medal by finishing in third place in the M60 category.

Thank you to Team Managers Luke Northall, Jacqueline Brace and Bernie Jones.

The next race in the Masters International programme for 2025 is the Abingdon Marathon on October 19, whilst the final race of the season will be the BMAF Cross Country International in Leeds on 15 November. Expressions of interest are still sought for the cross country and teams will be selected on 16 October. Expressions can be made via the following link: https://forms.office.com/e/N5H3sFqaYB
