Welsh endurance running is currently in a great position with athletes producing great times over the past few weeks from around the world!
We first look back to the Podium 5K on the 3/04/2021, (find the full results here) where the U20 athlete Osian Perrin (Andrew Walling) lowered his previous U20 Welsh Record by 28 seconds running swift 14:02. the Barrowford track was where Perrin had set his previous best at. The performance by Perrin puts him joint 8th on the UK all-time U20 rankings. Jonathan Hopkins was also in the same race and came 9th in 13:58 which is just off his PB of 13:57,26 which he set back in 2019. James Hunt got stuck in and also had a strong run running 14:00 to come 12th just ahead of Perrin.
On March 31st at the Battersea Park Comeback 5000m, (see full results here) Jennifer Nesbitt (Chris Jones) secured a big win running 15:46.62. this was the first time Nesbitt has dipped under 16 minutes since august 2019. Oliver Barbaresi (Andrew Walling) also competed at the Comeback 5000 where he ran 14:40.19.
Once again we head back to the USA where we catch up with the extremely talented Elliot Slade who is still on an upward curve with his performances in his return to the sport. Slade competed at the APU Invitational in the 800m where he clocked a sub 1.50 running 1:49.78 to come 2nd. The last time Slade went sub 1.50 was back in 2018 where he ran 1.49.41 in Belfast.
The was another PB for Amber Simpson at the Joey Haines Invitational where Simpson opted to compete in the Discus. Simpson threw a PB of 39.14m which puts her 9th in the overall UK rankings and top of the UK U23 ranking list.
