Weekend Round up – Welsh Athletes are putting on a show in America

On the 19th March 2021, over the pond in the US Emily Kearney of Wirral AC (currently studying at Milligan College) competed at the Rams College Invitational where she competed in the 5000m. Kearney stormed to victory beating her old personal best of 16:27.20. Kearney ran 15:39.65 which means she is only 9.65 seconds off the Commonwealth qualifying standard. Kearny also backed up the run by running in the 3000m running a 9:25.71 as well as competing the next day in the 1500m. Showing some good speed Kearney won in a time of 4:26.46 just shy off of her 2019 PB of 4.25.45. With the huge improvement and incredible form, Kearney is showing it can only be a matter of time before she has the standard!

At the Charlotte 49er Classic in the US, for the first time in his career, Samuel Roberts competed in the 5000m coming 3rd in a respectable time of 15:34.80.

Continuing with the endurance runs in the states, Bethan Evans competed in the 800m at the Tiger Track Classic. Evans came 4th also posting a respectful time of 2:25.59.

Moving over to the sprints, Amelia Reynolds had a solid weekend at the Black & Gold Invitational competition in both the 200m and 400m. Reynolds had a solid weekend where she ran 26.14 coming 5th in the 200m and taking victory in the 400m running 60.07.

Finally, Amber Simpson is showing that she is in fine form and is hunting down her Hammer Commonwealth qualification standard. Simpson threw a SB of 59.26 just shy of her Pb of 61.03. Ambers throw currently places her 6th in the UK ranking list for 2021.
