Maesgwm Detour inc the Welsh Senior Mountain Running Championships, 5 August
The Welsh Senior Mountain Running Championships, Welsh Inter-Regional Championships and the fourth round of the FRA British Mountain Running Championships took place in Llanberis on Saturday 5th August.
Gavin Roberts (Calder Valley) and Anna Drinkwater (Eryri Harriers) took the senior titles.
Welsh U17 / U15 Combined Events Championships, 5 & 6 August
The Welsh U17 & U15 Combined Events Championships took place over the weekend at the Manchester Regional Arena.
Eden Robinson (North Devon) finished 2nd in the U17 Combined Events Championships to break Bethany Staniland's record from 2004 with a new personal best. Robinson finished the competition with a total of 4834.
ABP Barry Island 10k, 6 August
Thousands of runners took part in the 2023 ABP Barrys Island 10K, the runners took on a scenic tour of the town from Whitmore Bay to Watch House Bay.
Lily Partridge confidently took the women’s title and a new course record of 34:32. It was the Birchfield Harrier’s second victory of the summer, following a win at the Ogi Porthcawl 10K last month. 2022 winner Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents) was the runner-up and first Welsh athlete in 37:18, with Donna Morris (Builth & District AC) completing the top three positions, just behind in 37:42.
In the men’s race, it was Shaun Antell (Bideford AC), runner-up in the recent Ogi Porthcawl 10K who emerged victorious, crossing the finish line in 30:46, ahead of Dan Hamilton (Pontypridd Roadents) in 30:52 and 2022 ABP Barry Island 10K race winner Adam Bowden (Bridgend AC) completed the top three in 31:03.
National Athletics League Championships, 5 August
Round 3 of the National Athletics League Championships took place on Saturday.
In the Premiership round 3B in Birmingham, Swansea Harriers finished seventh with a final score of …
Thomas Walley (Swansea Harriers) took victory in the men’s pole vault, clearing … whilst Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers) took victory in the women’s 400m with 54:00 seconds.
In the Championship round 3A, Cardiff Athletics finished top with a final score of 534.5, earning promotion to the Premiership.
Josh Brown (Cardiff Athletics) took victory in the men’s 100m with a time of 10:44 seconds and Hannah Longden (Cardiff Athletics) was victorious in the women’s 200m with a time of 24:09.
European Athletics U20 Championships, 7 August
Representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the European Athletics U20 Championships in Jerusalem, Dafydd Jones (Swansea Harriers) finished eighth in his heat with a time of 8:25.18 to qualify for the men’s 3000m final. The final will take place on the 9th of August at 19:35.
Murder Mile, 6 August
Jacob Tasker (Ogmore Phoenix) took victory in the Murder Mile with a time of 7:49 minutes, to break the course record. Tasker broke the current record by 19 seconds.
Leiria Throw International
At the Leiria Throws International, Amber Simpson (Wrexham AAC) finished second in the hammer throw, registering a best distance of 66.10m to finish second in the event.
