European Athletics Indoor Championships, 2-5 March

Melissa Courtney-Bryant (Poole AC) continued her great indoor season, claiming bronze in the women’s 3000m picking up Great Britain’s first medal of the Championships.

It wasn’t to be for Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) finishing in 6 in the men’s 60m final with a time of 6:58, finishing ahead of fello Brit, Rees Prescod.

Joe Brier (Swansea Harriers) was the final Welsh athlete to compete, Brier finished 5th in the men’s 4x400 relay final.

Trafford 10K, 5 March

Six athletes were selected to represent Wales at the Trafford 10K on Sunday.

In the Senior Women’s race Beth Kidger (Brighton Phoenix) who was the first of the team across the finish line in third with a time of 32:34 and a new personal best. Anna Bracegirdle (Salford Harriers) finished in 15 position in 33:38.

Whilst in the Senior Men’s race, Chris Thomas (Thames Valley) was the first of the team across the finish line, with a time of 30:29. Just ten seconds separated Thomas and James Heneghan (Pontypridd Roadents), with Heneghan finishing in 30:39. Paul Graham completed the course in 30:52.

Outside of the Welsh team selected, Tomos Roberts (Meirionnydd) completed the 10k in 30:21, which was a new personal best.

Barry 40 Mile Track Race inc the 34th Welsh Ultra Distance Championships, 4 March

On Saturday the 37th edition of the Barry 40 Mile Track Race took place, which saw Ollie Garrod (South London Harriers) broke the World Record for 40 miles, completing the track race in 3:45:07.

Vault Cardiff, 5 March

Vault Cardiff took place at the National Athletics Indoor Centre in Cardiff on Sunday with 117 athletes competing.

In the senior women’s category Ellen McCartney (Woodford Green AC with Essex Ladies) took first place with a heigh of 4.26m.

Jack Phipps (Birchfield Harriers) took first in the senior men’s category clearing 4.93m, just behind him in second place was Thomas Walley (Wrexham AAC) clearing 4.83m.

Millie Carter (Swansea Harriers) missed out on first place in the women’s U20 category clearing a height of 3.43, but it was Charlie O’Neill (Birchfield Harriers) that claimed victory with a height of 3.48m.

Molly Barnett Open Track Walks including the England Athletics Winter Track Championships, 4 March

Bethan Davies (Cardiff Athletics) got her season underway with a win in the Senior Women’s 10,000m category, finishing with a time of 46:54.49. Davies also took home the Ann Smith Award for the performance of the day based off IAAF points.

In the U20 Women’s category Gracie Griffiths (Pembrokeshire Harriers) made her debut over 10,000m, finishing in third with a time of 52:09.34 . The time puts her 10th in the UK all time U20 rankings.

The John H Collins Cross Country Gwent League, 4 March

On Saturday the final race of the league took place in Pontypool Park. In the Senior Women’s race Katrina Entwistle (Bristol & West Athletic Club) that finished first in 23:45 over a distance of 6.3k.

In the Senior Men’s race it was Adam Bull (Pontypridd Roadents) that took victory with a time of 31:27.

Overall Welsh winners of the series.

Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon, 5 March

There was a new British Record set in Newport, with Angharad Mair (Les Croupiers) running 1:25:50 to break the women's over 60 British Record.

Adam Bowden (Bridgend AC) was the first to finish, completing the half marathon in 1:07:32.

Whilst Sioned Howells (Swansea Harriers) was the first female athlete across the finish line with a time of 1:19:27.

Rhayader Round the Lake, 4 March

The 2023 edition of Rhayder Round the Lake took place on Saturday with both the 10k and 30k races. 

In the 10k races, Kate Jones was the first femal athlete across the finish line, finishing in 43:00. Carl Phillips was the first finisher in the men's race, completing the course in 37:12

Whilst in the 30k races, Charlotte Hunter (Oswestry Olympians) was the first to finish in the women's race with 2:14:23, and Jacob Tasker (Ogmore Phoenix) took victory in the men's race with 1:46:11.

Jones O Gymru Anglesey Half Marathon & 10K

Back for it's 12 edition the Jones o Gymru Angelsey Half Marathon and 10k took place in Menai Bridge. 

In the Half Marathon event, Ifan Dafydd (Eryri Harriers) was the first across the finish line with a time of 1:11:43. In the women's cateogry, Alison Campbell was the first to finish, completing the course in 1:22:20.

In the 10K event, Lloyd Williams (Cybi Striders) was the first to finish with 33:59, and in the women's race Michelle Taylor (Islwyn RC) was the first to finish with 43:41.
