Trelai Park parkrun
The 90th Trelai Park parkrun took place On Saturday as the launch events for the 75th anniversary of the NHS took part across the Home Countries. The attendance and volunteer records were broken, with over 150 runners from 27 clubs participating. Nine of those running took part in their first timers, seven walkers and 28 volunteers. Across the UK there was a UK post-Covid participation record, with 183,067 walk/run finishers and 24,992 volunteers.
There were several important guests in attendance to join in on the celebrations; Frank Atherton, Chief Medical Officer for Wales; Mark Drakeford, First Minister; Judith Paget, Director General for Health and Social Services and the NHS Wales Chief Executive; Helen Ward, Wales, and Watford striker; and Chrissie Wellington, Global Head of Health and Wellbeing for parkrun.
NHS staff and volunteers, as well as local communities, will be encouraged to ‘parkrun for the NHS’ at parkrun events on Saturday 8 July, or junior parkrun events on Sunday 9 July.
FBK Games, 4 June
On Sunday in Hengelo Melissa Courtney-Bryant (Poole AC) secured the qualification standard for the World Championships in the Women’s 1500m. Courtney-Bryant finished fifth overall with a season-best performance of 4:02.81.
Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) was in action in the Men’s 100m, finishing in eighth place with a time of 10.21 seconds.
Rack Raid, 4 June
The Fairwater Runners “Rack Raid” relay road race took place on Sunday.
Parc Bryn Bach claimed first place with a time of 10:53:36, with a winning time of 29:35 minutes. They were followed home by Lliswerry A in second with a time of 11:44:02 beating Chepstow A in third by a margin of 2:41 minutes.
Iffley Festival of Miles, 3 June
In Oxford on Saturday James Heneghan (Pontypridd Roadents) finished second in the Roger Bannister Men’s Mile with a time of 4:03.34 minutes.
In the open 1500m split – open mile race James Meiklejohn (Cardiff University Athletics Club) finished fourth in the 1500 split and seventh overall with a time of 4:29.42 minutes. He was followed home by Tom Baird (Pontypridd Roadents) who finished fifth over the 1500m split and eighth overall with a time of 4:31.63 minutes.
Youth Development League
Over the weekend several Welsh junior clubs were in action in the Youth Development League with great performances on display.
