Cardiff 5K Race for Victory, 30 April

It was a great evening of running in Whitchurch on Sunday for the Cardiff Race for Victory which incorporated the Welsh 5k Championships.

First across the finish line in the women’s race was Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) in a personal best time of 15:54 to take the Welsh title.

First across the finish line in the men’s race was Omar Ahmed setting a new course record with a time of 13:55.

In the Women’s Welsh 5k Championships Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) took the Welsh title, with Olivia Gwynn (Swansea Harriers) in second with a time of 17:06 and in third was Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents) with a time of 17:15.

In the Men’s Welsh 5k Championships Jonathan Butler (Swansea Harriers) took the title in 14:23, Lloyd Sheppard-Brown (Cardiff AC) in second with 14:27 and Dan Nash (Cardiff AC) completed the podium in third with 14:30.

Red Kite Challenge, 29 April 

In the women’s half marathon Ffion Price (Builth & District RC) retained her title with a run of 1:53:00. Whilst in the men’s half marathon Jacob Tasker (Ogmore Phoenix) was first across the finish line in 1:35:00.

Over the 10k distance Beth Rawlinson (Wolverhampton & Bilston) was first home in 57 minutes in the women’s race, whilst in the men’s race Joe Robson (Aberystwyth Uni) was the first athlete to complete the course in 53 minutes.

In the Senior Women’s Welsh Trail Championships, Ffion Price (Builtj & District RC) took the title, with Katie Reynolds (Eryri Harriers) in second and Kitty Robinson (Clwb Run Wales) completing the podium positions in third.

In the Men’s Senior Welsh Trail Championships Jacob Tasker (Ogmore Phoenix) took the title, with Ollie George (Sarn Helen) finishing in silver medal position, and in bronze was Wyndham Turner (Builth & District).

Memphis Tigers International, 28 April

Amber Simpson (Wrexham / Memphis) has been breaking records for fun this year, and on Friday Simpson broke her own Welsh record that she set just a few weeks earlier in the hammer throw. Throwing a huge distance of 68.13m.

BUCS Athletics Outdoor Championships, 29 – 1 May

The BUCS Athletics Outdoor Championships for 2022-23 took place over the Bank Holiday weekend at the Manchester Regional Arena.

Birmingham Commonwealth Games athlete Lauren Evans (Cardiff Met / Cardiff Athletics) took bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles, and a team silver for Cardiff Met in the women’s 4x100m relay.

In the Men’s 5000m James Heneghan (Cardiff Uni / Pontypridd Roadents) took bronze and a new club record in his final BUCS Championships.
