Loughborough International, 21 May
The sun was shining in Loughborough on Sunday for the 65th edition of the Loughborough International.
There were top three finishes for Seren Bundy Davies (Trafford AC) in the Women’s 400m finishing in second, Rhiannon Hawker (Cardiff Athletics) took third in the Women’s 800m, and Patrick Swan (Cornwall AC) finished second in the Men’s Shot Put. Whilst Team Captain James Heneghan (Pontypridd Roadents) took victory in the Gandy Mile.
Seren Bundy Davies (Trafford AC), Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers), Ffion Mair Roberts (Menai Track & Field) and Sian Harry (Belgrave Harriers) in the Women’s 4x400m relay.
Race Walking European Championships, 21 May
It was an all Welsh team at the Race Walking European Championships, as Bethan Davies (Cardiff Athletics) and Heather Warner (Pembrokeshire Harriers) represented Great Britain and Northen Ireland.
Davies finished 14 in the 35km competition, whilst Warner finished 26 in the 20km race.
The night of the 10,000s, 20 May
On Saturday evening there were great performances in the Night of 10,000m PB’s which also incorporated the British Championships. Melissa Courtney-Bryant (Poole AC) acted as pacemaker in the women’s race.
Welsh athletes Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) and Beth Kidger (Brighton Phoenix) were in action. Evans finished in 21 with a time of 33:14:72, she was followed home by Kidger in 22 with 33:24:24.
Chester Half Marathon Welsh Masters, 21 May
In the second of this year’s master’s Road International’s at Chester, Wales had a much better day winning a couple of age groups and having a number of medallists in the various age categories.
Pride of place goes to Lee Aherne (Parc Bryn Bach) who won the M55 age group by just 8 seconds avenging the defeat he suffered in the 10km international last month. David James (Les Croupiers) had no such problems in the M65 category winning by nearly 2 minutes.
Louise Flynn (Les Croupiers) was first Welsh woman home securing second place in the W35 category in a great time of 1:23:37. Sandra Chipper (Lliswery Runners) also grabbed a silver medal in the W50 category and was backed up by Nikki Morgan, (Chepstow) with a bronze in the W55 age group.
Owain Sciavone, (Cardiff) was third in the W40 age group and Steve Hayes (Deeside) occupied a similar position in the M45 age group with his 1:14 performance.
AJ Bell Great Manchester Run 10K, 21 May
On Sunday morning Natasha Cockram (Miky Morris Racing Team) finished 7 with a time of 33:49.
BWAA Grand Prix Series, 20 May
Kieran Jones (DSW Para Academy) was in action in the shot put in Stoke on Saturday. Jones finished the day with the furthest throw of 7.79m, to remain ranked number one in Great Britain.
