Cardiff Met Christmas Classic Indoor Grand Prix (inc Welsh 3000m Championships), 17 December

The Cardiff Met Christmas Classic Indoor Grand Prix (inc Welsh 3000m Championships) returned to NIAC on Saturday, which incorporated the Welsh Indoor 3000m Championships. The event also saw Lauar Muir (Dundee Hawkhill) break the all comers record as she secured her qualifying time for the World Indoor Championships with a time of 8:34.39.

Jenny Nesbitt (Pontypridd Roadents) claimed the women’s 3000m title with a time of 9:07.64, followed by Angharad Davies (Carmarthen & District Harriers) in second with 9:28.06, and Katrina Entwistle (Bristol & West) completed the top three positions 10:19.23.

Whilst Benjamin Reynolds (Cardiff Athletics) took the men’s Welsh title with a time of 8:04.50, it was Piers Copeland (Pontypridd Roadents) who took second with 8:11.62, and Dion Griffith (Menai Track & Field) finished in third with 8:48.29 to complete the podium positions.

Festive 10K, 17 December

Lots of runners got in the festive spirit on Sunday in Pontcanna Fields, Cardiff.

After representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the European Cross Country Championships, Moli Lyons (Cardiff Athletics) was the first female runner to complete the course, finishing in a time of 34:45. Louise Flynn (Les Croupiers) was the second female athlete to finish, with a time of 37:52 and Nynke Kuiper (CDF Runners) completed the top three, with 39:05.

Tom Flitcroft (Les Croupiers) was the first male athlete to finish, completing the course in 33:40, he was followed by Tomos Whitmarsh-Knight (Les Croupiers) in second with 33:44, and Tomas Black (Mynyddwyr De Cymru) completed the top three with 34:11.

Dash Dolig & Festive 5K, 17 December

The Festive5k and Dolig Dash returned to the Nant y Pandy Nature Reserve on Sunday, which saw 100 people take to the course to get into the Christmas spirit.


Sandy Water parkrun, 16 December

On Saturday morning at the Sandy Water parkrun Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) completed the course in 14:33 minutes to break the course record by 42 seconds.
