WELSH SENIOR AND UNDER-15 TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – CARDIFF, JUNE 15 AND 16
The 106th staging of the championships provided a plethora of outstanding performances across the two days of competition. Among them was that of national development programme athlete Darcy Coslett (Llanelli AC) who broke the Welsh Under-17 400m record in what was an outstanding senior women’s final. The open race was won by Charlotte Henrich (Invicta East Kent AC) in a personal best of 52.64, which was also a World Under-20 Championships qualifying time. The Welsh title was won by Tess McHugh (Sale Harriers) in a new PB and Welsh championship best time of 52.89. While Coslett’s silver medal winning time of 54.29 broke the 46-year-old under-17 record of 55.53 set by Sian Walters in August of 1977.

NIGHT OF ATHLETICS – CONTINENTAL TOUR BRONZE – BELGIUM, JUNE 15
Competing for the first time in six weeks, Melissa Courtney-Bryant (Poole AC) warmed up nicely for the UK Athletics Championships and Olympic trials in Manchester later this month. The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and Welsh 1500m record holder finished a close second in the 1500m in a season’s best time of 4:06.60.
BARMOUTH 10K 2024 – JUNE 15
Anna Bracegirdle (Salford Harriers and AC) was a class above everyone else in the women’s race at the Barmouth 10K on Saturday. The Wales and Great Britain international crossed the line in 34:26 – almost four minutes ahead of Olivia Bailey (Hinkley Running Club), who clocked 38:10. Margaret Beever (Stainland Lions Running Club) was third in 39:09. Tom Roberts (Meirionnydd Running Club) claimed the honours in the men’s race when he broke the tape in 32:01. Connor Rogers (Wrexham AAC) was second in 32:38, ahead of Chris Rimmer (Tavistock Run Project) in 33:10.
THE COITY FELL RACE – JUNE 15
James Reeder (Team Bath) won the men’s race in 37:45, finishing well clear of Jonathon Ford (Mynydd Du) with 39:06 and Samuel Rawes (Team Bath) in 39:12. The honours in the women’s race went to Kani Hinshelwood (Parc Bryn Bach Running Club), who crossed the line in 49:30. Amy Cox (CDF Runners) was second in 50:12 and Florence King (CDF Runners) third in 53:54.
SALOMON TRAIL MARATHON WALES - JUNE 15
The Welsh (Long) Trail Running Championships took place at Coed-Y-Brenin on Saturday which was incorporated into the Trail Marathon Wales Event.
Despite a heavy downpour just before the 9am start of the Marathon, the weather conditions improved significantly throughout the day. Tony Wood (Denbigh Harriers) and Andrea Rowlands (Eryri Harriers) were crowned Welsh male and female champions on the day. Tony finished 6th overall in a time of 3:42:11 with Andrea finishing 9th overall in a time of 3:58:36.
MARLOES SPUD RUN 2024 – JUNE 16
The Marloes Spud run is a 10K multi-terrain race which takes in a disused airfield, beach and footpath along the spectacular Pembrokeshire coast. The men’s race was won by Iwan Froley (Cardiff Athletics) who completed the course in 39:36.8. Second place was claimed by Ben Dare (Pembrokeshire Tri) in 40:21.0 ahead of Ben Skinner (Hereford Couriers) in 44:26.7. Johanna Eklund was first in the women’s race and third overall, crossing the line in 44:19.2. Lucy Walwin was the second female home in 48:55.7, with Sophie Pritchard (NBLRS) third in 52:56.2.
