British Athletics Cross Challenge Final - Loughborough

This weekend saw the last fixture of the British Athletics Cross Challenge, incorporated with the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, held at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough. With the series beginning last October at Llandaff Fields, Cardiff, today marked its end.

On a notoriously challenging course, athletes from all over the United kingdom made their way to Loughborough to compete for their region.

In the U15 Boy’s race, Iwan Thomas (Carmarthen) carried on his fantastic cross country form, after winning the Welsh National Championships, to place 5th. Finley Bruce (Carmarthen) who was 2nd behind Thomas in the Welsh National, also had a strong run, finishing in 32nd.

Lloyd Sheppard Brown, running for East Wales had a fantastic run in the U20 Men’s race, finishing just outside the top ten, placing 13th. In the U20 Women’s race, Ellen Mary Kearney (Wirral) had a strong showing, placing 34th overall.

In the U13 Men’s race, William Coles (Carmarthen), who was the Welsh U13 Boy’s Cross Country Champion, finished a strong 27th.

Although only placing 58th in the U13 Girl's race, Libby Hale's (Swansea) strong performances from the rest of the season meant that she was crowned the overall British Cross Challenge Series Winner.

England Athletics U17&U15 Combined Events Championships - Sheffield 

The U17&U15 combined events championships took place over the weekend, providing our athletes with an oppertunity to compete over all the event disciplines. Lolo Grant (Cardiff Archers) put together a string of impressive performances in the U17 Men's event to come away with second place, whilst Luca Phillips (Cardiff Archers) also landed a spot on the podium, claiming 3rd in the U15 Boy's event, with a score of 2543. A summary of the results can be found here:

San Domenico 10 / 20 - Cardiff 

The scenic 20 Miler and 10 Miler races set on the Taff Trail in the heart of the Welsh Valleys took place on Sunday, with Daniel Otteson (Swansea) and Holly Rush (Avon Valley) running 2:00:12 and 2:08:10 respectively to take victories in the 20 mile event. Simon Murphy (Pontypridd) ran 55:10 to take the mens title over 10 miles, whilst Olivia Tsim took victory in the women's race, finishing fourth overall in 57:57 with Lauren Cooper also braking 60 minutes to finish second in 59:32.
