HEZEKIEL SEPENG INVITATIONAL – POTCHEFSTROOM, SOUTH AFRICA, APRIL 7
Great Britain Olympian and Wales Commonwealth Games sprinter Joe Brier (Swansea Harriers) ran his 400m fastest time since 2024 in South Africa.
In his opening race of the season, Brier finished third, clocking 45.93 – just outside the Commonwealth Games B nomination standard of 45.85. The time was also a UK outdoor lead.
ILLINI DECA JAM – CHAMPAGNE, ILLINOIS, APRIL 9 – 11
Amber Simpson (Wrexham AAC), who finished fifth in the hammer at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, threw another Welsh A nomination standard in America over the weekend.
Placing second at the Illini Deca Jam, Simpson threw a best of 68.16m. The Welsh Athletics nomination A standard for this summer’s Glasgow games is 67.03m.
Last month, Simpson threw 68.75m at the Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Illinois.
OKLAHOMA THROWS SERIES WORLD INVITATIONAL – RAMONA, APRIL 10 – 12
The Oklahoma Throws Series World Invitational event witnessed remarkable performances by Welsh athletes Adele Nicoll and James Tomlinson (both Birchfield Harriers).
Firstly, Great Britain international Tomlinson (Birchfield Harriers) produced a superb performance at the famous throwing venue in America on Friday.
The British Under-18 discus record holder threw 60.80m to match the Welsh Commonwealth Games B standard, before throwing a winning distance of 61.15m. Tomlinson’s previous best was 57.30m set in 2023.
However, the best was yet to come for Tomlinson. On Sunday, at the same event, the former Pembrokeshire Harrier launched the discus out to 63.18m – 33cms short of the Commonwealth Games A standard.
On Saturday, Winter Olympian Nicoll celebrated a remarkable return to the shot put circle after spending the past eight months concentration on her bobsleigh career.
Nicoll, who represented Great Britain in the two-woman and monobob events at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics in February, threw a Commonwealth Games B standard.
The three-time British shot put champion and Birmingham Commonwealth Games competitor measured 17.22m to finish fourth in a high quality competition won by World Champion Chase Jackson, who Nicoll has been working with since returning to training recently.
DUKE INVITATIONAL - DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA, APRIL 10-11
Gwenno Goode (LaSalle/Cardiff Athletics) finished ninth at the Duke Invitational 1500m in a time of 4:19.01.
TENNESSEE INVITATIONAL – KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE, APRIL 10-11
Ellen-Mary Kearney (Milligan University/Warriors Pentathlon and Athletic Club) was runner up over 5,000m in Knoxville, clocking a time of 17:16.19.
RAFER JOHNSON/JJK INVITE - LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, APRIL 11
Thomas Walley has another great pole vault in america with another commonwealth B standard reaching a height of 5.30m to finish first in his pool.
RUN WITH THE WIND 1 – CARDIFF, APRIL 11
A mixture of star names and promising youngsters shone at Welsh Athletics’ first Run With the Wind event in Cardiff on Saturday.
Among those taking part were Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) who was making his first appearance outdoors after attempting to defend his World Indoor 60m title in Poland earlier this year.
Azu was part of a solo Welsh 4x100m team which clocked a time of 40.64. The team also featured fellow Cardiff Athletics team mates Lewis Stephens, Alex Azu and Luca Logue-Fonseca.
Later in the day, Azu was in action again as he took part in the 200m where he earned the fastest time of the day with 20.82. Stephens ran 21.42 and Logue Fonseca 21.64.
The fastest female 200m time went to Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers), who is bidding to compete at a third Commonwealth Games later this year.
Brier clocked 23.70, ahead of Jasmine Khogali (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) with 24.81 and Eli Jones (Menai Track and Field) with 24.88 ahead.
Brier was also in form in the 100m. Running as the only female in her heat, Brier opened her outdoor season with 11.53 as she finished second to Ewan Jones (Menai Track and Field), who ran 11.34.
The next fastest female time went to Eli Jones in 12.12 with under-16 athlete Myla Jones (Cardiff Athletics) posting 12.99.
Owain Lloyd-Hughes (Swansea Harriers), whose recent career has been dogged by injuries, ran his fastest time in almost six years in the 100m.
The Welsh international posted the fastest male time of the day when he clocked 10.43 – just outside the PB of 10.38 he posted back in August of 2020.
It was an impressive day for Swansea Harriers as Eniola Adedotun ran 10.56 and the third fastest time of the day went to club-mate Marek Warzocha in 10.94.
T37 National Development Programme sprinter Tomi Roberts-Jones (Newport Harriers) ran a big new PB of 12.83.
In the Under-14,U-16G, U16B and U-18W 300m, outstanding young NDP sprinter Aliyah Afolabi (Cardiff Archers) completely dominated the race to finish almost four seconds clear of her nearest rival in 39.61.
Promising NDP wheelchair racer Owain Tyrrell (Newport Harriers) completed a double victory by winning the 100m and 200m wheelchair and frame running races in 18.15 and 33.53 respectively.
Other notable performances from NDP athletes saw Ava-Lexi Placide (South Wales) win the Under-18 women’s 100m hurdles in 14.07, while Cobie Phillips (Cardiff Archers) won the Under-18 men’s 110m hurdles in 15.32.
SENIOR HOME NATIONS TRAIL INTERNATIONAL – KESWICK, APRIL 11
A Welsh team competed at the inaugural Senior Home Nations Trail International in the Lake District on Saturday.
The long trail race was contested over 53.4K with 2,640m of ascent. Gavin Roberts (Calder Valley Fell Runners) led the Welsh team home as the 16th male finisher overall in 4:28.31 hours.
The other Welsh finishers were Owain Zerilli (Les Croupiers) 34th, Brett Mahoney (Mynydd Du) 37th, Owain Williams (Rhedwyr Eryri) 51st.
The top Welsh female finisher was Bethan Logan (Mynydd Du) 13th followed by Katrina Entwistle (Mynydd Du) in 6:11.02 hours.
The event also included the trial for the British team for the trail race in the European Off Road Championships.
WELSH ATHLETICS 2026 INTERNATIONAL U18 MOUNTAININ RUNNING CUP TRIAL RACE – CAERNARFON, APRIL 11
This was a one off trial race for the International Under-18 Mountain Running Cup which will be held in Southern Italy on June 21.
The event was held in difficult weather conditions over a 5.82k/210m course at Upper Llandwrog, Caernarfon.
The women’s race was won by Heather Griffiths, who finished just one second ahead of Nansi Griffiths. Tamsin Seguin was third.
The men’s race was won by Zac Campbell ahead of Lewis Davies and Ryan Delany.
ERRA MEN’S 12 STAGE AND WOMEN’S 6 STAGE ROAD RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS – SUTTON COLDFIELD, APRIL 11
Swansea Harriers men’s and women’s teams finished as the top Welsh clubs in the Men’s 12 Stage Relay and Women’s Six Stage Relay in Sutton Coldfield on Saturday.
Swansea’s men’s team finished 10th out of 59 teams from across the UK in a total time of 3:23:12. The team’s fastest individual 5.424km lap was posted by Great Britain cross country international Dafydd Jones, who ran 16:08.
Meironnydd Running Club finished 12th in 3:23:58, with a fastest lap of 16:18 from Dion Griffith. Les Croupiers were 28th in 3:28:22 with a fastest lap of 16:43 from Ciaran Lewis.
The men’s title was won by Bristol and West AC A in an overall time of 3:16:49.
In the Women’s Six Stage Relay, Swansea also finished 10th, in a time of 2:01:00. The fastest Swansea split was posted by young GB international steeplechaser Millie Gold, who completed her 5.424km lap in 19:18.
Les Croupiers were 14th in 2:05:17 with a fastest lap of 19:46 from Nynke Kuiper. CDF Runners were 29th in 2:17:17 with a fastest lap of 19:55 from Ceri Merwood.
The overall title was won by Belgrave Harriers A in 1:52:55.
CLIVE MARSH SPRING WARM-UP MEETING – PAR, CORNWALL, APRIL 11
Welsh Athletics National Development Programme athlete Owen Garrett (Yate AC) threw an excellent new discus PB of 53.93m to win in Cornwall.
SWANSEA HARRIERS NEAL MERRY OPEN JUMPS MEETING – SWANSEA, APRIL 12
More than 100 athletes took part in the Swansea Harriers Neal Merry Open Jumps meeting on Sunday.
Among those to impress were National Development Programme multi-eventers Matilda Quick (Swansea Harriers) and Cobie Phillips (Cardiff Archers), who both competed in the Under-18, Under-20 and Senior mixed long jump.
Phillips was the overall winner with a best jump of 6.14m, while Quick was second overall and the highest placed female with 5.78m.
Amongst the younger age groups, Katriel Udoh (Swansea Harriers) enjoyed a successful day as she won the Under-16 girls long jump with 5.39m and was second overall in the Under-16 girls and Under-16 boys high jump with 1.60m. The overall competition was won by Gethin Owen (Cardiff Archers) with 1.65m.
MARK CAWTE OPEN MEETING – SWINDON, APRIL 12
Welsh Athletics National Development Programme athlete William Richards-Baldwin (Gloucester AC) opened his outdoor season in style at Swindon.
Competing as an under-18, Richards-Baldwin won the hammer with a new PB of 55.25m and the shot put with 15.63m.
NORTH WALES JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT OPEN - COLWYN BAY, APRIL 12
The North Wales Open took place at Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay on Sunday, attracting more than 60 athletes ranging from Under-10 to Under-14.
Under-14 athlete Faith Daley (Deeside AAC) won the U-14 girls long jump with a best of 4.57m and finished second in her heat in the U-14 100m with 13.70. The race was won by Sienna Hughes (Colwyn Bay) with 13.50. Matching that time in the first heat was Myla Brookwell (Menai Track and Field).
Brookwell also won the Under-14 boys and girls 200m with a time of 28.90 and was second in the Under-14 long jump behind Daley.
BRISCO GORSEINON 10K AND 2K FAMILY FUN RUN 2026 – APRIL 12
The Annual Brisco Gorseinon 10K saw more than 600 runners taking part on Sunday morning.
The men’s race was won by Ben Hughes (Pontypridd Roadents) who completed the course in 32:52. Jake Lyncock (Carmarthen Harriers) was second in 33:41 with Sam Hopkins (Neath Harriers) claiming third in 34:15.
The women’s race was won by Faye Birkby (Pudsey Pacers) who clocked 37:16 ahead of Emma Wookey (Lliswerry Runners) in 38:07 and Kirsty Smith in 39:39.
KYMIN DASH 2026 – APRIL 12
The Kymin Dash is a challenging and scenic seven mile race, straight up to the top of the Kymin above Monmouth, and back down on a long scenic loop of the Wye Valley.
The men’s race was won by Wyndham Turner (Mynydd Du) in 42:52. George Anthony was second in 43:19 and Daniel George third in 43:58.
The first female finisher was Katie Waller (Forest of Dean AC) in 48:40 ahead of Catherine Treble (Westbury Harriers) in 50:38 and Katerina Adams (Spirit of Monmouth) in 51:21.
PENALLTA PONY RUN - APRIL 12
The five mile Penallta Pony Run showcases the iconic Parc Penallta, world renowned Pity Pony Sculpture and observatory viewpoint.
The men’s race was won by Tom McCarthy (Pontypridd Roadents) in 27:02, finishing just ahead of his clubmate James Griffiths in 27:08. Phil Cross (Caerphilly Runners) was third in 30:08.
The first female finisher was Yasmin Hadid (Cardiff University) in 32:22, ahead of Elin Lewis (Caerphilly Runners) in 33:18.
DAMIAN WILLIAMS 10K RACE AND 2K JUNIOR RUN, TREDEGAR – APRIL 12
The overall winner of the 10K was Daniel Bodman (Parc Bryn Bach Running Club) in 36:47 ahead of Adam Grey (Pont-Y-Pwl and District Runners) in 36:48 and Ryan Malcolm Worlock-Morgan (Parc Bryn Bach Running Club) in 37:07.
The women’s race winner was Maisie Pearce (Parc Bryn Bach Running Club) in 42:03 ahead of club mates Nicola Jukes in 42:51 and Kimberley Price in 43:30.
OGWEN 15, 25 AND 40 YR HELGI DU 2026 – ERYRI, APRIL 12
Taking in the Eryri’s Ogwen Valley, Yr Helgi Du races include epic trails and technical terrain.
