Vanoni Italy International Preview

22/10/2021 00:00, I Mewn Blog /

After missing out last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Wales will once again be competing as they have done, (except for last year) since 2010 in the famous “TROPHY ENZIO VANONI” which is now in its 64th year, the event attracts competitors from all over Europe and is now a well-established international event which is different in many ways in that it is a three-man relay race where there are individual leg awards as well as team awards, despite the pandemic last year, the event still went ahead and still attracted some of Europe’s best mountain runners. There is also the Vanoni Femminile, a one lap 5km/248m female only race which precedes the Trofeo Vanoni 7,250k/435m event.

Anna Bracegirdle will be representing Wales in the Vanoni Femminile race where she will be up against the best female mountain runners in Europe. Anna recently ran a Marathon PB time of 2:40:17 at Manchester and she will be looking to maintain her form in Italy.

There is a mixture of Youth, experience, and novice competing for Wales in the Trofeo Vanoni. Youth in Tom Wood who has been running very impressively all year, experience in Gavin Roberts who has competed in the Vanoni event previously for his club, Eryri Harriers and has also been in impressive form this year and newcomer, MacGregor Cox, a London based athlete who has recently moved from a track, road running background into mountain running and ran impressively while running in his club colours (Thames & Valley Harriers) at the recent Home International at Sedbergh. All three will be looking to complete their relay legs around the 31-to-32-minute mark to have any chance of making the top ten teams.
