04/06/2021 00:00, I Mewn Blog /

Today's Welsh Government announcement proivdes significant and very welcome news for the Athletics community in Wales as large scale outdoor events are to be permitted from Monday 7th June.

  • "Larger outdoor organised gatherings and events, such as concerts, football matches and sporting activities, like organised running groups can go ahead for up to 4,000 people standing and 10,000 people seated. All organisers planning events and activities must undertake a full risk assessment and put in place measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, including social distancing."

‘Welsh Athletics welcomes the continued easing of restrictions. This latest update should enable running event, including parkrun across Wales to be able to plan for a re-start. During the last 12 months, many thousands of people have started to run to improve their physical and mental wellbeing, these individuals can now come together with the rest of the running community in Wales to support one another to continue their journey.

The competition structures across Wales are supported by many, many passionate individuals, they have all shown great patience and determination during this period, hopefully todays news will enable them to get back to organising the events that bring pleasure to so many people across Wales and have such a big impact on society.’
