The Weekend Round Up - EUROPEAN INDOOR SELECTION TRIALS

It was an action-packed weekend for some of our athletes in their quest to qualify for the European Championships in Torun - Poland. Select events put on by British Athletics were held in various locations around the UK. Short sprints, long jump and, triple jump were held in Lee Valley (London), 400m runners and endurances runners headed to Manchester and, finally, the throws and paul vaulters competed at Loughborough.

Starting off in London - sprinter Jeremiah Azu competed in the 60m and ran 6.90 to come 4th in his heats. Olivia Breen competed in the long jump where she lept to a new indoor PB of 4.65m. Rebecca Chapman also competed in the long jump jumping 6.01m.

In Manchester, Joe Brier put himself in a great position for individual selection coming 3rd overall in the 400m running a huge indoor PB of 46.81. Owen Smith also had a strong run, running 47.40 with great finishing speed and strength, putting his name up for potential selection for the 4x400m relay team.

"I'm on cloud 9 at the moment". "I've never hit a standard like that before and it's my first senior standard so I'm really chuffed"

in the 3000m there was also a great performance from Swansea Harriers’ Verity Ockenden, Jenny NesbittIeuan Thomas the three all ran very well in their races with Verity running  8:56.27, Jenny running 9:09.14 and Ieuan running 8:09.47. There was also a fantastic tactical win in the men's 1500m where Pier Copland won in 3:52.17.

Finally in Loughborough, we had Adele Nicole and Sabrina Fortune compete in the shot put. Adele threw a SB of 15.61m, with Sabriana throwing 13.09m.
