ICYMI -

It was a special day on the 9th of July at the European U23 Championships. Jeremiah Azu [Helen James] became the all-time 2nd fastest Welshman running a new lifetime best of 10.19 in his heats beating his old PB by 0.08 seconds. The time of 10.19 is also under the qualifying standard for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Jeremiah then went on to the final to win in fine style stopping the clock at 10.25 beating the defending champion by over a 10th of a second!

Azu joins a very talented list of athletes including the likes of Adam Gemili & Simion Williamson who have won the European U23 Championships.

After his victory Jeremiah had this to say:

“It feels so good. It is such a relief because last time I was here I didn’t walk off the track, but I am so grateful that I have done it this time,” said the sprint prospect afterward.

“It was 100per cent what I came here for. I was only ranked eighth coming into this final, so I have kept under the radar a bit, but I felt I had it in there.”
