ICYMI Midweek Action
With restrictions still in place in Wales, meaning that only athletes with elite exemption can access competition, Welsh Athletics hosted another Endurance Invitational meeting on Wednesday 21st April at Cardiff International Sports Campus.
Despite the cool and windy conditions, athletes produced some high-quality performances including a victory in the 5000m for the in-form Kristian Jones (Swansea Harriers), and a personal best of 13:53 for Tom Marshall (Cardiff Athletics) in a return to competitive racing for the first time in 2 years. James Hunt (Cardiff Athletics) also produced a personal best for the distance on track by almost a minute.
The 1500m saw a victory for GB international Jake Smith, and a strong opening performance for Paralympian Steve Morris, who will no doubt have qualification for Tokyo on his radar this year.

Also on the 21st Jennifer Nesbitt competed at the BMC Gold Standard Races where she ran a PB of 9:04.75.
In the throws, athletes competed at the Welsh Athletics Elite Field Fest.
In the Shot Put, Adele Nicoll (Ryan Spencer-Jones) won the event with a SB throw of 15.79 Decathlete Curtis Mathews (Lawrence Moore) threw a PB 14.76m to come 2nd, Samantha Callaway came 3rd in 12.71 and Lauren Evans (Matt Wood) came 4th with 9.67.

There were tough windy conditions in Loughborough this weekend where athletes battled against strong winds coming in around -5m/s.
Jeremiah Azu (Helen James) competed in the 100m where he ran 11.1 into a -4.9 and 10.79 into a -1.6, taking the victory in both. Azu also competed in the 200m where he came up against 200m specialist Welsh Kristian Jones (Glyn Hawks). The race was won by the 200m World Junior Champion Jona Efoloko, Jones came 2nd in 22.02 and Azu battled for 3rd in 22.26, Eli Onyewu (Helen James) came in the same time.
Rebecca Chapman (Gareth Hopkins) competed at the Yeovil Spring Field Festival in the Long Jump where she jumped 6.29 which is just 0.26cm off of the Commonwealth Games qualifier!
Over the 800m distance Michael Parry (Phillip Oliver) competed in the 800m & 1500m at the Clark Wood Open & David Locke (James Thie) competed in the 800m at the Loughborough April Track Open. Parry won his race in a swift time of 1:51.29 and came 3rd in the 1500m in 3:57.40. Locke also got the win in a SB time of 1:51.97.
