Team Bronze Medals Galore at the British Mountain Running Championships

British Athletics Mountain Running Championships, Llanberis – September 21
Sunny & very warm conditions greeted all the Home Countries & Ireland to the Senior & Junior Home International, incorporating the British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championship Plus, GB World Trial at Llanberis on Saturday 21st September. Conditions on the summits were very windy but despite this, all of the Welsh athletes won Bronze medals in their team competitions.
There were three separate races with the U/17 girls & U20 women first off up & down Moel Eilio on a 7km/447m race route. Though U/20 Scottish athlete Lauren Dickson won the race in a time of 37:32, the most outstanding performance came from U/17 Welsh athlete Eden O’Dea (Deeside AC) who finished 2nd overall and 1st U/17 in a time of 38:00.
The next event saw the U17 boys & U/20 men run the same race route as their female counterparts which the English athletes dominated with 7 of their runners finishing in the top 10. Making the top 10 in 9th position overall was Joe Reardon (Aberdare) in a time of 32:35.
In the final race of the day, The Senior Home International 12.5km/710m event which included the summits of Moel Eilio, Moel Gron & Moel Goch, Scotland’s Andrew Douglas followed up his Snowdon Race win with another outstanding run and was a clear winner in a time of 52:32 ahead of English athlete Joe Steward 55:21. Leading the way for Wales was local runner Matt Roberts (Calder Valley) 57:20. The first female finisher was Italian based Emmitt Collinge in 21st position overall with a time of 62:32. The first female athlete competing for Wales was Elliw Haf (Eryri) who finished in a time of 70:40.
Admiral Swansea Bay 10K, Swansea – September 22
Yesterday, the Welsh 10K series continued in Swansea with Matt Clowes and Lucy Marland a the top of table going into the race.
In the Men’s race, James Hunt was the first Welshman home in 3rd running 30:22. This will now put him at the top of the table. The next Welshman home was Cardiff AC runner Matthew Edwards in 7th running 31.13.
In the Women’s race, Natasha Cockram, of Micky Morris Road Runners, took the win in 33:27. She was followed by three Cardiff teammates, Clara Evans ran 33:36 to finish 2nd, Jenny Nesbitt was just behind in 33:46 and overall series leader Lucy Marland finished down in 4th with 35:28.
Mattoni Ústí nad Labem Half Marathon, Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic – September 21
Swansea Harrier Josh Griffiths finished 5th out in the Mattoni Ústí nad Labem Half Marathon last weekend. He ran a new pb, running 64:23.
Chaparral Abersoch Half Marathon – September 21
Martin Green of North Wales Road Runners was the first Welshman home in 01:15:31 to take 2nd place. He was followed closely by Rhedwyr Hebog runner Owen Roberts in 01:16:23.
In the women’s race, Prestatyn runner Sian Beck was the first Welsh lady home in 01:41:33 followed by Carla Green of North Wales Road Runners in 01:43:26
