Success for Wales at Last Road Masters International of the Season

07/10/2024 00:00, I Mewn Blog /

Wales had some success at the final Masters International Road Race of the season when Wales took on England over the marathon distances at the Chester Marathon. On the tough Chester course, medals were difficult to come by but our older athletes lead the way with Gold Medals for Bob Hind, Cybi Striders in the M70 Category winning in a gun time of 3-54-00, and Fiona Davies, Pontypridd Roadents in a chip time of 3-57-20 won the W65 category. Jane Ogilvie, Brackla, making her Masters International debut alongside her husband, who was also making his debut, was the most delighted and surprised winner of the day, completing the course in a gun time of 3-46-12 to win the W60 category.

Lee Aherne, Parc Bryn Bach, has won medals at every distance from 5km to half marathon and he continued his excellent season with a silver medal in the M55 category. Lee’s gun time was 2-42-06. Our final medallist on the day was Daryl John, Pembrokeshire Harriers, who won a bronze in the M50 category, running 2-42-34.

Special mention must go to Jeremy Mower, Western Tempo, who completed his 100 marathon whilst running for Wales in the Chester Marathon. Ultra specialist Jeremy continued his fine form with an excellent 2-54-08. Congratulations Jeremy on a terrific achievement.

The race organisers had major problems with the chip timing during the race, with Team Managers from England and Wales at one point reverting to taking photos as the Master Internationals crossed the line so an early decision was taken to use gun time for awarding the medals. However, the race organisers managed to resolve their gremlins and there is a full list of the Welsh performances below.
