Cardiff athlete Sarah Omoregie will be back at NIAC this weekend for the Welsh Junior Indoor Championships, but this time looking to take home gold after picking up a silver medal at the Welsh Senior Championships last weekend.

Omoregie finished runner up to Birchfield’s Adele Nicoll in last weekend’s Senior Women’s Shot Put Welsh Championship, with a season’s best effort of 14.30 metres, as she looks to add a Welsh Junior Indoor Title to the Outdoor Shot Put title she won in 2018.

“I was happy with my performance last weekend, it was a season’s best, but I still have things to work and improve on. I’m excited for this weekend’s Welsh Junior Championships as it’ll be my last time competing at the Championships as a Junior, and so I’m just hoping to enjoy it and try and throw further (than last weekend).”

Last year proved to be one of the best yet for the Cardiff Junior, winning the British u20 Shot Put Championship and throwing a lifetime best of 15.09m at the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal. In addition, there were Discus and 60m Hurdles lifetime bests for her in 2018, as she demonstrated her talent and potential in the multi-event disciplines.

She already has a wealth of international experience, having finished 2^nd at the Commonwealth Youth Games Shot Put back in 2017, and earned two British vests at European Throws competitions last summer. She’ll now be looking for another strong performance at this weekend’s Junior Championships to kick start another successful year, both on the track and in the field.
