PBs set at the Speedway 10K & Athletes Showing Strong Form ahead of Welsh Championships

Non-Thomas Open (Including Welsh 3,000m Championships), NIAC, Cardiff – Jan 19
Last weekend, Cardiff Metropolitan University held their annual indoor athletics meeting which including the Welsh 3000m Indoor Championships.
Ieuan Thomas was led to the Indoor 3K Welsh title in 8:06.01 by Aldershot, Farnham & District runner, Adam Clarke.
Basildon runner Gemma Kersey took the win in the women’s race whilst Lucy Marland was the first Welsh Woman home to take the Welsh Championship title in 9:40.12.
Other standout performances on the day came from Sam Gordon who is looking in strong form ahead of the Welsh Championships this weekend, clocking 6.70 in the 60m final. Mica Moore also showed form by taking the win in the women’s 60m, clocking 7.58.
In the field, there was an exciting showdown between Cardiff AC jumpers Lauren Evans and Daena Kealy. Kealy jumped a new personal best of 1.70m to challenge Evans but Evans stayed strong and took the win on countbacks.
Speedway 10K, Beachley – Jan 18
Last Sunday, a speedy field of runners took on the Speedway 10K. Paul Graham, Pontypridd Roadents, was the first Welshman home, finishing in an impressive new personal best of 29:42.
The next Welshman across the line was Cardiff AC's youngster, Lloyd Sheppard, who clocked a quick new personal best of 30:59.
Alaw Beynon-Thomas was the first Welsh Woman home in the race, clocking a season’s best of 36:08.
London U20 & Senior Games, Lee Valley, London – Jan 18-19
Steffan Dylan Jones was the fastest U20 in the 400m at the London U20 Games, clocking a season’s best of 49.66.
Owain Lloyd Hughes matched this in 200m, clocking in a new season’s best of 21.64 to win his heat.
CF64 Winter 6.4, Penarth – Jan 19
On a cold Sunday, John Morris from Les Croupiers RC was the first runner home at the CF64 Winter 6.4 in 38:43. He was followed by Pontypridd Roadents runner Darren Bishop in 39:17.
In the women’s race, Tammy Nurse was the first lady home in 45:56. She was followed by Bethan Griffiths from White Rock Runners in 47:54.
Twin Piers 10K, Llandudno – Jan 18
In North Wales, a multitude of runners took on the Twin Piers 10K. First Welshman home was Simon Cole from GOG Triathlon Club in 32:19. He was followed closely by Martin Green from North Wales Road Runners in 32:32.
In the Women’s race, Eden O’Dea swapped the mountains for the road, taking the win in 36:33 with fellow Deeside AAC runner Emma Crowe just behind her in 37:14.
