Over 25 Welsh athletes will be heading up to Glasgow to compete at the British Athletics Indoor Championships to be in contention of winning a British medal.

After her successful run in Dortmund, clocking 8:49.78 in the 3000m, Melissa Courtney-Bryant is going for gold this weekend up in Glasgow. She will also be joined by BUCS Cross Country bronze medallist Jenny Nesbitt.

World Para F20 Shot Champion Sabrina Fortune and Adele Nicoll, who took her 4th consecutive BUCS indoor shot title last weekend, will both be looking to give some strong performances on the weekend. Adele is excited going into the weekend. She said:

"I'm really looking forward to this weekend. I know I've put a lot of work in over past few months. My coach has done a great job in getting me into the shape I'm in now. I'm hoping for a good performance and if I can come away with a medal then even better."

Sam Gordon is flying into form after equalling his 60m pb of 6.67 in Stockholm last week. The fastest man in Wales is looking in strong contention for a British medal, saying:

"It’s time to show how hard we’ve been working this winter"

After a disappointing disqualification last year, Bethan Davies is making a return this year to try and add the indoor 5000m race walk title to her outdoor title. When we caught up with her for a quick chat, she said:

"I am looking forward to racing this Sunday, hopefully it will not only be an opportunity to reconcile with Indoors after last year's disqualification disappointment but also allow for a speedy start to the 2020 season! Fingers crossed I can help keep the Indoor Walks title firmly in the Welsh court!"

Sarah Abrams settled for a 5th place finish last year at the Indoor Championships but after setting a new personal best in Cardiff last month, she is hoping to be in medal contention ahead of this weekend.

After a tough week of racing, last week including a fast 5K in Armagh followed by two rounds of 3,000m at the BUCS Indoor Athletics Championships, Jonathon Hopkins is heading to Glasgow this weekend in the hopes of giving another strong performance to put him in contention for a British medal in the 3K. He said:

“I’m looking forward to competing in my first British Indoor Championships. This winter has gone really well and all of the races I have done have served a purpose for outdoors. Hopefully I can end this indoor campaign with a solid performance and maybe even a personal best.”

Fellow Commonwealth steeplechaser, Ieuan Thomas, will also be racing over the 3,000m distance and is looking strong after winning the Welsh title earlier this year. Speaking ahead of the race, he Thomas said:

"The British Championships are what we’ve been working towards all indoor season. With no world indoors to qualify for the Championships are now the biggest race of the year, and a chance to test yourself against the best runners in the UK. This is where the journey to Tokyo starts and I’m looking forward to a tough championship race"

Joe Brier recently took gold at the Scottish National Championships last month and is looking to give another strong performance in Glasgow later this week.

Welsh shot putters Patrick Swan and Daniel Cork will be looking to gain a medal in the Shot this weekend. Swan won gold at the Welsh Senior Championships last month and Cork took the Indoor BUCS title last weekend so both look in good form going into this weekend.

This action will be streamed live on BBC One from 13:15 – 16:30.
