Manchester International 2021

It was a cold and windy day at Sportcity stadium in Manchester for the annual Manchester International where Wales, England, Scotland, GB Juniors, and the National Athletics League team went to battle.

England took the victory totaling up a huge point score of 395 points, with Gb Juniors coming 2nd with 305 points and Wales finishing 3rd with 213.5 points.

At the start of the day, it was another great win for Jeremiah Azu [Helen James] who took the victory in the men's match 100m. Mica Moore [Lawrence Moore] then stepped up next with a great run off of her PB at the Welsh Championships this weekend. Moore finished 2nd with 11.87.

There was a Pb for Llien Morgan in the U20s 200m as he finished 2nd in 22.00 and in the senior 200m there was another PB for Arron Owen [Dave Norton] as he finished 4th in 21.31. Caitlyn Mapps had also had a solid run in the women's 200m as she finished 5th in 25.20. Off the back of her 100m title from the weekend, Hannah Brier [Matt Elais] stepped on the line for the 200m where she ran a swift 23.90 into a headwind to finish 3rd.

The women's 400m followed next and there were 2 Pbs. In the u20 race Nia Riley ran a solid race to finish 3rd in a new lifetime best of 58.01 seconds and in the senior women's race there was another huge breakthrough for Amy Odunaiya as she took the victory in a new lifetime best time of 53.96.

Now over to the middle distance where we saw Aimee Callow finished 6th in the women's junior 800m with Rachel Mclay finishing on the podium for 3rd place in the senior race with 2:08.08. In the senior men's 1500m Remi Adebiyi finished 3rd 4:00:50 & Ellen Mary Kearney ran a new lifetime best of 4:27.14. In the senior women's 1500m Jenny Nesbitt stepped down and ran herself onto the podium with swift 4:23.23.

There was a Pb in the 5000m where Lloyd Sheppard ran 14:43.75 as well as a PB in the 3000m SC with Oliver James in 9:44.70.

In the 110m hurdles, Tyree Thompson finished 3rd in 14.41. Seb Clatworthy also made the podium in the High Jump with 2.03m as did Lili Church as she jumped 1.69m for 3rd. There was another 3rd as Thomas Walley Vaulted 4.71m. In the junior Pole Vault, William Trott won the event in Pb of 4.41m & Isabel Thomas finished 2nd with a sb of 3.72m.

Ryan Edwards finished 3rd in the Long Jump with 6.90m, Rebecca Chapman finished 3rd with 6.16 and Jessica Lee also finished 3rd with 5.86.

Patrick Swan had a great Shot put competition as he got a new lifetime best of 17.45. It was also a great competition for Dafydd Pawlett as he competed for GB juniors and threw a Pb of 17.76. Harry Davies also had a good competiton as he finished 2nd in the Discus with 47.87.

Jac Palmer took the win with a consistant set of throws winning in 66.52m. Bethany Moule took the bronze in Javelin with a 48.28m. Guy Thomas took the victory in the 5000m Walk Race in a new PB of 20:50.76 and Welsh Champion Bethan Davies took the win in the womens 5000m race with a sb time of 22:25.27.

It was another win for the mens senior 4x100m team as Sam Gordon, Joshua Brown, Dewi Hammond & Jeremiah Azu ran away from the competiton running a swift 39.68 in cold windy conditions.

In the 4x400m Wales came 3rd as Charlie Holland, David Locke, Theodore Copestake & Aaron Jolly ran strong legs to come home in 3:24.14. and in the womens race, the women came 2nd as Bronwen Reed, Sian Harry, Caryl Granville & Rhiannon Linington-Payne got the baton home in 3:39.29.
