Junior Welsh Record Holders win big at English Champs whilst Jake Smith and Charlotte Arter win Cardiff 10K

IAU 50km World Championships, Romania – September 1
Dan Nash raced at the IAU 50km World Championships last weekend finishing 3rd and setting a brand new British Record over the distance in 2:49.01
Cardiff Metropolitan University Cardiff 10K – September 1
The sun came out in Cardiff for the annual Cardiff 10K.
In the Men’s race, it was a close battle between Jake Smith (James Thie) and Matt Clowes over the final few metres with Jake first to cross the line in 29:30 followed by Matt in 29:33 and Ciaran Lewis (James Thie) showed a strong performance finishing just behind them both in 29:45.
In the Women’s race there was another battle for the line. This time between training partners Charlotte Arter (Chris Jones) and Jenny Nesbitt (Chris Jones) with Charlotte just beating Jenny across the line in 32:45. Jenny followed through in 32:52 with Clara Evans both following them through in 34:06.
In the 10K Wheelchair race, Richie Powell took the win in 30:09 followed by Rob Smith in 31:07. Ellie Page was the first home in the Women’s Wheelchair race in 36:53 followed by Julie Larenson in 1:12.10.
England Athletics Championships, Bedford – August 31 – September 1
Over 30 Welsh youngsters made their way over to Bedford to challenge for a medal at the English Athletics U15 & U17 Championships last weekend.
William Trott (Jane Hosgood), Benjamin Reynolds (Arwyn Davies) and Osian Perrin (Andrew Walling) continued their successful season at the Champs. William took gold in the U15B Pole Vault with a leap of 3.91m. After his Welsh Record in the U17M 1500m, Benjamin ran a controlled race to take the win at the Champs. Osian also took a gold medal home over the U17M 3000m after running in the 1500m final earlier that day.
Harry Davies (David Arnold) threw a massive 50.79m in the U17M Discus to take the gold and Michael Jenkins (Ryan Spencer-Jones) showed a dominant performance in the U17M Para Discus competition taking the gold. Frank Morgan (Carol Jones) finished on top of the podium at his first English Champs in the U15B 3000m
Other stand out performances came from Bree Cronin throwing 38.65 to win U17W Discus Silver, Dafydd Pawlett (Lucy Griffiths) taking silver in the U15B Shot with 15.24m and Isabel Thomas (Jessica Abraham) leaping 3.51m in the U17W Pole Vault to take Bronze.
Chiassoo in marcia, Switzerland – September 1
Bethan Davies (Andi Drake) traveled out to Switzerland to compete in the 20km Race Walk, finishing in 5th place in 1:38.06.
Hammerwurfmeeting, Berlin – August 31
Off the back of his impressive bronze medal performance at the British Championships Osian Jones (Carys Parry) went on to Berlin last weekend to chase the qualifying distance. He won the event with a throw of 68.62m, shy of his own personal best and Welsh Record.
Sorbrook Tough 10K, Cwmbran – September 1
Daniel Bodman of Aberdare Valley Harriers was the first man home in 35:57 followed by Jonathon Like of Torfaen Runners in 36:12.
In the Women's race, Lliswerry Runners’ Elizabeth Dimond took the win in 42:05 followed by Clare Patterson from Torfaen Runners in 43:51.
