Today marks the beginning of the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai. The championships will run from 7th to 15th November 2019 with plenty of exciting action which will include 7 Welsh athletes.

Among the athletes selected includes returning champion Hollie Arnold (David Turner) who is targeting both another world medal and to claim back her World Record in the F46 Javelin from rival Holly Robinson. She said:

"She did really well to throw that, but I'm looking forward to going head-to-head again."

You can watch Hollie try and re-claim her title on at 6pm on Monday 11th November

Along with Hollie, Aled Davies (Ryan Spencer-Jones) will be trying to make history in joining the exclusive club of British para-athletes to win four world titles in a row. You will be able to see this historic moment in the F63 Shot Put on at 8pm on Sunday 10th November. Davies is aware of the challenge but feels ready to take on some of the best in the World. Speaking ahead of the champs he said:

"I'm not ranked number one in the world at the moment - I'm actually third. So I'm not going in as the favourite. My competitors have thrown a long way this year and are in great form. But I know I've worked harder than any of those guys and I know what I'm capable of doing."

Olivia Breen (Aston Moore) will be looking to reclaim her T38 long jump title and contend for a medal in the T38 100m out in Dubai next week. She feels positive going into the champs saying:

“I’m happy, I’m healthy and I’m jumping really well. I’m really looking forward to and hopefully some medals, fingers crossed.”

Breen will be the first Welsh athlete to compete. She will be going in the Long Jump on Saturday 9th November, starting at 6pm

Kyron Duke (Antony Hughes) will be competing in the F41 Shot Put on Sunday after extending his personal best by 3m this year. He will be in strong contention for medals.

Sabrina Fortune (Ian Robinson) will be competing in the F20 Shot Put, hoping to improve on her 6th pace finish two years ago.

Two Welsh athletes will be competing in the 100m. Youngster Harri Jenkins (Anthony Hughes) who will be making his debut in a World Para Champs competing in T33 100m at 8pm on Sunday 10th November and former silver medallist Jordan Howe will be running in the T35 100m heats on Thursday 14th November at 10am.
