Day 2: 2024 Welsh U13 / U17 / U20 Indoor Championships Round-Up

Another Welsh Record was set on Day 2 of competition, Luca Phillips (Cardiff Archers) extended his Welsh Record to 7.36m, also setting a new Championship Best Performance in the U17 men’s long jump. The jump saw the Cardiff Archer surpass the U18 European qualifying standard!
Jac Sheehan (DSW Para Academy) got the action on Day 2 underway in the seated shot, a week after winning the senior title, Sheehan went on to throw 8.17m to take the U17 title. Whilst in the women’s event Ellie Bowen (DSW Para Academy) threw 6.00m exactly to take the title.
In the U17 women’s 3000m, Amelia Williams (Carmarthen & District Harriers) ran a great race to finish just outside of the Championship Best Performance with 10:09.45. Finishing in second with a strong performance was Madison Hughes (Maldwyn Harriers) with 10:12.47. Whilst Joshua Sanders (Cardiff Athletics) claimed the men’s title in 9:26.89.
There was success for both Joshua Grist (DSW Para Academy) and Joseph Symons (DSW Para Academy) in the U17 men’s ambulant / para shot put. Both athletes set new personal bests, with Grist taking the title with a throw of 7.43m and 516 Raza Points and Symons finishing second with 6.23m and 45 Raza Points.
The young Cardiff Athletics athlete Jacob Barnes (Cardiff Athletics) added a third medal to his tally on Day 2, after picking up golds in the U13 long jump and 60m. On Day 2, the Cardiff athlete went on to also take the 200m title in 26.31. There was also success for North Wales athlete Alic Sykes-Hand (Deeside) AAC, who also claimed three golds over the Championship weekend, taking titles in the U13 girls 60m, long jump and high jump.
Thomas Loynes (Neath Harriers) secured two endurance titles over the course of the weekend. Picking up the U17 men’s 800m title in 2:00.36 on Day 2 and the 1500m title on the first day of competition.
The day concluded with the 200m finals. It was a close finish in the U13 girl's final, with Leela Wilson (Bridgend Athletics) securing the title in 28.88, closely followed by Sophie Piddington (Newport Harriers) in 28.99.
In what was a photo finish in the final event of the day, Marek Warzocha (Swansea Harriers) took the U20 men’s 200m title in 22.52, just behind him was Osian Parry (Cardiff Archers) with 22:55. Aharon Graham-Mulvaney (Cardiff Athletics) completed the podium positions with 23.21.
