Day 2: 2024 Welsh Senior & U15 Indoor Championships Round-Up

It was a historic weekend in Cardiff at the 2024 Welsh Senior & U15 Championships, with one Welsh record, four Championship Best Performances, and the highest number of entries in the history of the event.
A new Indoor Welsh U17 Record was set on day two, with U17 athlete Luca Phillips (Cardiff Archers) jumping 7.18m to take the senior men’s title.
It was a perfect weekend for Aliyah Afolabi (Cardiff Archers), setting a second Championship Best Performance. This time in the U15 Girls 200m semi-final, breaking Hannah Brier’s record from 2012 with a time of 25.30. The Cardiff Archers athlete went on to extend her new record to 24.62 seconds in the final.
Aidan Angilletta (Deeside AAC) continued his success from day one, finishing the weekend with a haul of five medals. Taking victories in the long jump, 60m hurdles, and triple jump on day one, followed by a gold in the U15 high jump and bronze in the U15 shot put on day two.
After breaking the Championship Best Performance in the semi-final of the senior women’s 400m, Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers) went on to take the Welsh title in the final with a time of 54.37.
William Bishop (Cardiff Met / Deeside AAC) claimed a Welsh title in the ambulant / para long jump with a distance of 3.20m and 61 Raza Points, in addition to his silver medal from day one in the 60m. Bishop was followed by Commonwealth Youth Games teammate, Tomi Roberts-Jones (Newport Harriers) in second with a jump of 4.01m and 56 Raza Points.
In the U15 girls 3000m Bryony Boyce (Cardiff Athletics) put in a great performance to retain her Welsh title, completing the race in 10:35.0.
Lauren Evans (Cardiff Athletics) added a second medal to her tally from the weekend, taking silver in the senior women’s high jump, with a height of 1.68m.
