Coach Education Update

21/06/2024 00:00, I Mewn Blog /

As we come to the end of a busy June in our Coach Education Calendar, we reflect on all the wonderful volunteers who have put themselves forward and committed to the ongoing support they give to the athletics family and the community in which they operate.

We continue to see fantastic responses for all our coaching courses and as a result, this month our tutors travelled across North, South, East and West Wales delivering our Coaching Assistants course in both Penarth and Aberystwyth. Our Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) course was successfully delivered with a full cohort in Aberdare and we also had a full class for our LiRF online course.  At the end of this month, we travel back to Aberystwyth to upskill candidates with our Athletics Coach course which allows coaches to elect a technical speciality and operate independently to groups fully insured under the Welsh Athletics Licensing scheme. With just one spare place in Neath, our tutors delivered the ever-popular Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) course again allowing coaches to focus on off-track delivery fully covered once they have obtained their licence and one of the final courses we delivered this month was the celebrated Fell, Hill, Off-Road and Trail Leader module on A blustery Saturday on the Jurassic coastline in the Vale of Glamorgan.

In total, we saw over 70 volunteers this month embark on these coaching qualifications, and we thank each and every one of you, including our Welsh based Coach Developers and of course our English based Coach Developers who travel over the border from England in some instances to meet demand and help deliver club-based courses on a bespoke basis.

If your club has sufficient numbers and you are interested in a bespoke club-based course please contact the Education Department at education@welshathleitcs.org
