UK Athletics can announce that the 2026 UK Athletics 5K Road Race Championships will be held on Sunday 27 September 2026 at Bute Park, Cardiff, hosted by the Sportsshoes Podium race series.

Sportsshoes Podium, owned and delivered by SportsShoes, has built a strong reputation within the road racing community, grounded in its simple ethos: show up and race hard.

The series continues to attract some of the UK’s top endurance talent alongside competitive club runners.

The 2025 edition of the championships showcased outstanding performances at the elite level. Jack Rowe (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) secured his third national title, crossing the finish line in an impressive 13:31.9.

In the women’s race, Olympian Alexandra Bell (Pudsey & Bramley AC, Andrew Henderson), claimed victory with a time of 15:46.7.

The 2026 championships are expected to build on this success, once again bringing together the country’s top athletes in a fast, competitive environment in one of the UK’s most scenic racing venues.

Mia France, Race Director of SportsShoes Podium says:

I'm excited to see Podium return to Bute Park, Cardiff for the Home Nations event. It's been a fantastic year for Podium, and we're continuing to grow, attracting some of the UK's top talent to race on some of the fastest 5K courses."

Further event details, including entry information and race schedules, will be announced in due course.

James Williams, Welsh Athletics CEO shared:

We are delighted to welcome another top quality event to Wales, and we look forward to seeing some of the best athletes from across the UK and Europe charge around Bute Park – and no doubt we will see some fast times again this year.
