On Sunday, St Cyres played host to a fantastic Coaching Assistants course, bringing together passionate candidates from across south, east, and west Wales. Representatives came from 11 different clubs, including Cardiff Athletics, Rhondda AAC, Swansea University, Swansea Harriers, Brecon AC, Ogmore Phoenix Runners, Les Croupiers, Cardiff Archers, Carmarthen Harriers, Newport Harriers, and Aberdare Valley AAC, and some from further afield from England!

The energy throughout the day was inspiring. Each participant showed real commitment to developing their skills, with the shared goal of supporting athletes at all levels. The course not only built coaching knowledge but also strengthened connections across the athletics community.

What made the day so special was the variety of clubs represented. From university teams to established community clubs and even our Youth Athletics Ambassadors attended, the breadth of experience highlighted how athletics in Wales continues to grow stronger through collaboration. By equipping new coaching assistants with the right tools, we’re ensuring that the next generation of athletes has the guidance and support they need to thrive.

This course is more than a licenced qualification; it is a huge step forward for athletics across our region. Every club that took part is now better placed to nurture participation, performance, and a lifelong love of sport. Together, we’re helping to grow not just athletes, but healthier, more connected communities.

Congratulations to all the candidates, and thank you for playing your part in building the future of athletics in Wales.
