This years Anglo Celtic Plate British 100km Championships is to be held in Perth, Scotland, in North Inches Park, on Sunday 3rd April.
Welsh Athletics are delighted to be sending 2 female and 5 male athletes to compete in the championships. Making her international debut, Sanna Duthie (Lonley Goats RC) has made rapid improvements over the past year, winning all five of the ultra events she competed in during 2021. Sanna will be the first ever Clwb Run Wales team member to gain international honours. . “I've always loved being outdoors, especially on the coastal paths. I ran my first ultra in 2015, I learnt a lot from that and from then on, I continued to improve. You will normally find me running the Pembrokeshire coastal path or walking it with my dogs. My biggest achievement took place in 2021, when I completed 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire coastal path in 51 hours and 31 minutes, which set the new FKT for the course. I just love to run and the further the better. I have a lot of support from my dad either driving me or fueling me with roast dinners, and my partner Andrew”
Andrea Rowands (Eryi Harriers) returns to the Anglo Celtic Plate this year and will look to advance on her 11th place finish. "I have taken part in many ultras, but mainly off road. 2021 was my first Anglo Celtic Plate which was a great experience from which I hope to improve on this year."
Jack Blackburn (Pontypridd Roadents) will also be making his second apperacne at the Anglo Celtic Plate, where he finishes in a time of 7:28:58 and 7th overall. Joining him will be Jeremy Mower (Gloucester) who retruns for a 16th time to the Anglo Celtic Championships! At 55 years old, Jeremy recently finished 6th overall in the Flitch Way 120km, 12 hour event in a time of 11:52:52.
Contrastingly, Simon Roberts (MDC) will be making his Anglo Cup debut. Althought this will be his first time at this event, Simon is a renowned ultra runner and was a dominant winner of last years Dragon Back event. "I was the first ever Welsh winner of the Montane Dragons Back Race last year. This year I have won the Spine Challenger North race, 160 miles of the Pennine Way. Have also previously represented Wales in Mountain Running. Here for my first Anglo Celtic Plate!' Joining Simon on his debut will be Gareth Pritchard (Vegan), who is an established ultra runner with wins in the Manchester Canalathon 50KMT 3:35:54 and he Hardmoors 160 event 37:52:52. Hey says “His First-time representing Wales, based in Durham, England with strong family ties to north Wales. Already with some notable performances to his name, Most recently achieving 237km at Gloucester track 24-hour race and a strong run at Barry track 40. A proud Vegan Runner, hoping for a strong run and help the Welsh team to a successful ACP".
Daniel Weston (Wrexham) makes up the team, and as current Welsh Anglo Cletic Championships record holder in a time of 7:11:47, eyes will be on him to see if he can go faster in what will be his 3rd time competing in this event. Daniel says “42 years old which is the answer to life, the universe and everything (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe reference)! I've completed the 42 laps of Perth twice before. The craziest 100k I've done was in the Gobi Desert, lots of sand and heat! I enjoy all distances from 5k to 100k. Preferably on the road and flat. One day hoping to run 100miles but most of my friends think I already have as they don't compute kilometres!!"
