27th ANGLO CELTIC PLATE 100K BRITISH 100KM CHAMPIONSHIPS

NORTH INCH PARK, BELLS SPORTS CENTRE, PERTH - SUNDAY 24th MARCH 2019.

Wales Ultra runners will be making their fourth visit to Perth’s North Inch Park to compete in the Anglo Celtic Plate & British 100k Championships on Sunday 24th March, a venue that has proved to be very successful for our athletes in the past; In 2011 Emily Gelder set the championship record time of 8:00:37 when winning the 2nd of her 4 consecutive titles and along with Jen Salter, won the team title, the first team title ever won by Wales in the events history. In 2013, Iain Ridgway (Eryri) won the British 100k Bronze Medal, while the men’s team also won bronze. Daniel Weston (Wrexham) became the best placed Welshman ever, while also claiming the fastest time by a Welshman in the events history when finishing 2nd in 2016 with a time of 7:11:47 as the Welsh men’s team also won team bronze. No Welshman, or team have ever clinched Gold to date, could this be the year?

TEAM SELECTIONS/PROFILES

MEN

Nathan Flear (3M Gorseinion)

Nathan will be running in his second ACP since making his debut for Wales at the 2017 ACP at Patrington, Hull where he was the first Welsh finisher in a time of 7:45:49. Unfortunately Nathan pulled out of last year’s ACP a week before the race due to an injury. He then went on to finish 3rd at the Belfast 24 hour with a distance of 235k and then finished the gruelling Spartathlon race in 13th place in a time of 26 hours.

This year having spent the winter training out in Kenya, Nathan is hoping for a big improvement on his PB at Patrington 2 years ago.

Jeremy Mower (Gloucester)

"This will be Jeremy’s 15th consecutive appearance at the ACP 100k and he will be hoping he can get close to his PB of 8:18:34 which was set on the Perth course in 2011. Last year Jeremy completed his first ever 100 mile trail race, the South Downs Way 100 in 21:51:28 and he also set a new Marathon PB of 2:51:31 at Chester when competing for the Celtic Nations v England Masters race. Jeremy has competed for Wales 23 times in total at Senior or Masters Level since he took up running 19 years ago after previously playing football and rugby.

Jason Scanlon (Pontypridd Roadents)

47 year old Jason has been running for 14 years on all terrains and distances. Jason will be making his 4th appearance in the ACP 100k following his debut at Redwick in 2012. Jason has a PB of 8:16:55 at Perth in 2013. Jason has a busy schedule coming up after the ACP including: the Newport Marathon in May followed by the Bluetrail Ultra in Tenerife in June which is a 102k ultra from South to North Tenerife over Mount Teide which is 3700 metres high. The 3rd highest volcano in the world. Jason has never run at high altitude before and is looking forward to the experience before competing in the Snowdon Marathon in October for the 8th consecutive year.

Daniel Weston (Wrexham AC)

Daniel started running a bit later in life at the age of 26 in 2006. He started with 10k and Half Marathons before progressing to Marathons. His first Ultra was a hilly 50 miles but due to a lack of navigation skills it ended up being nearer 57. After that venture, he's preferred the road Ultras that require less navigation!

Daniel has completed the ACP four times with a PB of 7:11 at Perth in 2016.

Daniel Barnett (Croft Ambrey)

Making his international debut for Wales, Daniel has an impressive CV of Ultra running going back to 2008, including completing the UTMB (Ultra Trail Tour du Mont Blanc) on three occasions, the Marathon des Sables in 2013 and Transgrancanaria in 2014. Daniel took a break from running to compete in road cycling for two years, before returning in September 2018. Winning the Flitch Way 100k early this year on the 27th January clinched Daniel’s selection for the ACP.

WOMEN

Gemma Wathan (Eryri Harriers)

After participating in several Marathons and managing to get her personal best down to 3hrs10mins, Gemma looked for new challenges and turned her focus towards Ultra Marathons.
After participating in a few ultras on the trail, Gemma won on her debut in a 100mile race at the While Rose Ultra. Her participation in her first 100k road ultra marathon at the Meridian 100k in 2017 was a big learning curve for her.
Gemma is hoping to have learnt and gained value knowledge from her previous experiences to help her at this year’s ACP event.

Jayne Angilley (Cornwall AC)

Jayne has a PB time of 9:18:10 for the 100k when representing Wales in the ACP at Perth in 2011. She also represented Wales in the ACP at Gravesend in 2014, and in 2018 at Rediwck, Newport. In 2018, Jayne competed in mostly off road races including the Salomon Gore-Tex Maxi-Race Marathon in Annecy, and trail races on Dartmoor. She is looking forward to returning to race in Perth.
