Feeling like getting involved?
The Track and Field events within the Olympics are always a highlight of the games with the world's best athletes running, jumping and throwing to compete for that iconic Gold medal. The Paris 2024 edition of the games promises some outstanding competition that will inspire a new generation of athletes to want to get involved. So here are a few ideas and opportunities to get Children and Young People involved this summer:
- Get in your touch with your local athletics club and head down to find out more - map of all the clubs in Wales available here.
- Junior parkrun free, timed 2k events for those aged between 4 and 14. Courses are fully marshalled, although children aged under 11 must be accompanied to and from the event by a parent or guardian. There are events across North, South and Mid Wales so head online to find your closest,
- Team GB's official Path to Paris resource for families is ready to go - Info here: Get Set | Get Set Path To Paris

"With the Paris Olympics taking place between 26 July-11 August and Paralympics between 28 August-8 September, it’s time to get inspired for your own sports day! Here is our guide to help you run and organise a great sports day. We have developed this resource to support delivery of cross-curricular activity celebrating the sport of athletics, and to get children excited to support our Welsh athletes heading to Paris for the games.
Use the resource to suit the needs of the staff and learners in your settings. You may like to use the cross curricular resources to inspire whole class activity through teacher facilitation. The resources also suit small group work or learners could complete them independently. It’s certainly something for the adults to enjoy too; put your knowledge to the test! Over to you!"
Cath Bingham, Young Persons Physical Activity Officer
