Athletes are selected by their School District (eight districts compete) to compete at the Championships where both individual and team awards will be issued.
A preview for the event can be found here.
Arrival
If you are not arriving on a team coach, ample parking is available at Brecon High School and further parking is available at Brecon Leisure Centre. Both are only a short walk from the venue. Please do not park on the grass verges along Cerrigcochion Road, outside the entrance to the track - Vehicles may be booked if they do so.
Facilities
A caterer will be in attendance, selling hot and cold refreshments. There will also be an external retailer selling event hoodies at a cost of £15 (cash would be preferable).
Toilets and changing are available at the venue. Further catering and toilets / changing are available for use at the Leisure Centre.
The Course
An undualting and winding course will be constructed around playing fields, adjacent to the Athletics track. The course used will be very similar to that used at the Welsh Inter-Schools Cross Country Championships in November. It is a competitors responsibility to walk the course. A course map and timetable can be found here.
The Start
Competitors need to be close to the start at least 10 minutes before the start of their race BUT not take off their outer gear until told to do so by their team manager or the start team.
The Start Co-ordinator will sound a whistle at two minutes to the start when competitrs should enter their allocated start pen.
The pen draw for 2022 can be found here.
The Finish
A barcode timing system will be in use and will replace the disc system used at previous editions of these championships.
Presentations
Race presentations will take place as soon as possible after each race. The presentation area is near the finish area. Awards will be made to the first three athletes in each race and to the first three teams (the first six scoring athletes).
Athlete Welfare
The weather forecast predicts inclement weather for Saturday. Please bring suitable clothing and a dry set of clothes for after your race.
Covid-19: Alert Level 0 is now in place in Wales. In addition, due to the outdoor nature of the event, no extra Covid-19 measures are neccesary as the risk of contracting Covid-19 is very low. It is strongly advised that all attendees wear face coverings in any indoor setting including toilets / changing rooms.
SIAB Cross Country International Selection
The races will also host a trial for Welsh teams to compete at the SIAB Cross Country International in Pembrey on Saturday 26th March 2022. The full selection policy can be found here.
