The Jones o Gymru Anglesey Half Marathon starts and finishes at the Anglesey Showground, a wide-open setting with a spectacular panorama of Eryri (Snowdonia) rising across the Menai Strait. With the Carneddau and Glyderau peaks forming a dramatic skyline, runners set off with one of the most inspiring start-line views in Wales.

From the Showground, the route heads west on the A5, allowing runners to settle quickly into their rhythm on a wide, fully closed road. The early kilometres feel spacious and confident, with long lines of sight and big, open views over rural Anglesey.

From the A5, the course turns north and east towards Trefor, onto a series of quiet country lanes that lead runners through some of the island’s most traditional agricultural landscapes. These peaceful roads, edged with hedgerows and historic field boundaries, highlight the deep rural character that defines the heart of Anglesey.

Leaving Trefor, open countryside gives runners superb long-range views of Eryri. The mountain skyline rises clearly from this part of the course, creating a stunning backdrop as you move through gently undulating terrain.

Continuing toward Bodffordd, the landscape opens again. Here, runners enjoy more sweeping mountain views framed between fields, farmsteads, and the quiet, timeless lanes of central Anglesey. This section captures the island at its most authentic and scenic.

The course then arcs south toward Llyn Cefni. As runners approach the reservoir, the setting becomes wide and atmospheric, with beautiful water views and distant mountain silhouettes. Rejoining the A5, the road gently rises and falls as runners make their way back toward the Anglesey Showground. Eryri comes back into view as the finish line draws near, creating a spectacular closing scene for your final push. Supporters, music, and the lively race-village atmosphere welcome runners home.

This entirely closed-road half marathon is a celebration of historic rural Anglesey, far-reaching mountain vistas, and the quiet beauty of the island’s countryside. From the first steps to the final sprint, it’s a route that feels both scenic and deeply rooted in place — a true Anglesey experience.
