Welcome boost for the sport - time to get ready!

Welsh Athletics sees the latest Welsh Government announcement very much as a positive step forward for the sport. The news will see that athletics and running activities (including club activities and training) for children and young people under the age of 18 (aged 17 and under in line with Welsh Government guidelines) can resume from Saturday 27th March (pending favourable public health conditions) will be a huge boost for many.
Clubs, young athletes, coaches, leaders and parents should prepare for the return to activities from 27th March, and as a result, clubs should be working closely with facility providers and operators to plan for the return to club training.
From a junior perspective, the easing of restrictions will see the sport return to pre-lockdown conditions with larger group sizes permitted in line with both the Welsh Government guidelines and the relevant Risk Assessment aligned to the club’s activity to ensure the safest return of the sport across Wales.
We are acutely aware of the benefits that the sport brings to both the physical and mental well-being of so many young people across Wales. The timelines outlined last week indicate that clubs will be able to return to junior activities over the Easter period which will be welcomed by many across the sport.
In line with this return, Welsh Athletics has produced a ‘Preparing to Return to Club Activity Guide’ which is available here
