Cardiff 10K, 3 September
Thousands of runners took to the streets of Cardiff for the return of the CDF 10k. The race was last hosted in the Welsh capital in 2019.
Alaw Evans (Les Croupiers) took advantage of being on home soil to win the women’s race in 34:48. Evans took the lead at the 8k mark from Beijing Olympian Kate Reed (Bristol & West AC) to storm down the home straight to take the gold medal. Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents) completed the top three, finishing third in 35:49.
In the men’s race, Alfred Ngeno (Kenya) broke free and raced down the finishing straight clear of his rivals to take seven tenths of a second off his previous best to take the tape in 28:33. Kadar Omar (Birchfield Harriers) was a full minute behind in second ahead of Shaun Antell (Bideford AC). 2023 Welsh Marathon Champion Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) finished in fourth with a time of 30:01 and 2023
ABP Newport Wales Marathon Dan Nash (Cardiff Athletics) finished in fifth place with 30:08.
Big Half, 3 September
In London Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) put in a strong performance at the Big Half women’s elite race, finishing fourth in a time of 1:11:23.
Xiamen Diamond League, 2 September
Melissa Courtney-Bryant (Poole AC) was back in action following the World Athletics Championships. Competing over 1500m in Xiamen, Courtney-Bryant raced into fourth place in the final lap to finish with a time of 3:58.22, 0.2 seconds off her personal best time.
Zurich Diamond League, 31 August
Also returning to action after picking up relay silver at the World Athletics Championships Joseph Brier (Swansea Harriers) took on the men’s 400m at the Zurich Diamond League. Breier finished 7th with a time of 46.82 seconds.
