Success for Welsh Team at the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships

It was a successful Championships for the Welsh Junior Mountain Runners at Peeples, Scotland on Sunday 10th September winning two individual and one team gold medals, one silver individual and one silver team medals as well as one team bronze success.

Staged on the Cademuir hills on a warm sunny day, the under-17 girls led the way with gold for Mackenzie McCourt (Maldwyn) winning the 3.8km/175m race in a time of 17:24 with silver for Josephine Hurst (Deeside) 17:55 backed up by 12th placed Maddison Hughes (Maldwyn) 19:13, Wales won Team Gold.

Running over the same course distance and height, Iwan Thomas (Carmarthen) also struck Gold in a time of 14:33, backed up by: 5th Finley Bruce (Carmarthen) 15:33. 13th Iwan Froley (Cardiff AC) 16:00 and Joseph Murphy (Brecon AC) 16:55, Wales won Team Silver.

The under-20 races were run over a 5.9km/275m course. Wales women won Team bronze, led home by 7th placed Beth Rawlinson (Wolverhampton & Bilston) 30:40 followed by: 8th Maddison Griffiths (Maldwyn) 31:43 and 14th Caitlin Jones (Aberdare Valley) 33.11.

Wales under-20 men missed out on any medals but competed well in the warm conditions led home by 6th placed Rhys Llewellyn (Pembrokeshire) 26.18. 13th Aled Breeze (Maldwyn) 27:43 and 23rd Finlay Cullen (Maldwyn) 30.27.
