What a fantastic year it has been for Athletics and Running in Wales. This year's Welsh Athletics and Run Wales Awards provided an opportunity to honor and celebrate the outstanding contributions and successes of our clubs, groups, athletes, coaches, leaders, officials and volunteers. 

This year’s awards winners:  

Clubs & Groups Awards

  • Club of the Year – Pontypridd Roadents AC 
  • Off-Track Club of the Year – Meirionnydd RC
  • Run Wales Group of the Year – Short Strides Run Club 

Volunteer & Officials Awards

  • Volunteer of the Year – Lee Aherne (Parc Bryn Barc) 
  • Services to Athletics – Arwel Lewis (Eryri Harriers) 
  • Newcomer to Officiating – Jayne Evans (Trots) 
  • Official of The Year – Amy Price & Rory Mckerlich (Cardiff Athletics)

Coaching Awards

  • Performance Coach of the Year – Helen James (Cardiff Athletics) 
  • Coach of the Year – Lisa Waddon (Christian Malcolm Sports Academy) 
  • Run Wales Run Leader / Coach of the Year - Darran Moran (Vale Runners)

Athlete Awards 

  • Junior Male Rising Star – Jack Organ (Brecon AC) 
  • Junior Female Rising Star – Eden Robinson (Cardiff Archers) 
  • Senior Male Athlete of the Year – Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) 
  • Senior Female Athlete of the Year – Sabrina Fortune (Deeside AC) 
  • Off-Track Athlete of the Year – Kris Jones (Swansea Harriers) 
  • Performance of the Year - Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) 
  • Athletes Athlete of the Year - Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) 

Event/Race Award

  • Event of the Year – Cosmeston Relay Race (Penarth & Dinas Runners)

Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff Athletics) scooped three awards of the evening Senior Male Athlete of the Year, Performance of the Year and Athlete’s Athlete of the Year.

A new award for 2025 Event of the Year the award went to Penarth and Dinas Runners ‘Cosmeston Relays

This year's event marked the 35th anniversary of one of Wales most cherished and enduring club traditions, a summer night like no other, bringing together runners, volunteers, and supporters in a celebration of spirit, community, and competition.

From 90 teams that first year... to 250 teams and 750 runners today, the event has grown into a highlight of the running calendar, continuing to raise funds for Tenovus Cancer Care. In 2025, history was made again, with the first-ever Visually Impaired team, “VI of the Best”, crossing the line to huge cheers and heartfelt applause.

Announced on the evening was both Run Wales awards. Darran Moran (Vale Runners) received Run Coach / Leader of the Year. The run group that came out on top was Short Strides Run Club awarded Run Group of the Year

First time Club of the Year winners was Pontypridd Roadents AC. The club has excelled over the past 12 months growing to over 270 members, athletes of all abilities from across South Wales. Inspired by GB representation at the Paris Marathon they won the Castles Relays for the first time. 

A new award for 2025 Off Track Club of the Year the award went to Meirionnydd Running Club. The club has has grown from a small club based in the south of Eryri National Park, to one of Wales top endurance clubs. This club has gone from Div 2 of the North Wales League, to being the first North Wales club to win the Welsh Cross Country Championships, starting a new junior section and developing successful women and masters’ teams.

Volunteers and officials are essential to our sport, five standout individuals were recognised from across Wales that support various parts of the sport through officiating, team managing, club management, event organising and much more! Volunteer of the Year was awarded to club stalwart Lee Aherne (Parc Bryn Barc). Services to Athletics was awarded to endurance volunteer Arwel Lewis (Eryri Harriers). Newcomer to Officiating was presented to Jayne Evans (Trots) and finally Official of The Year was awarded to both Amy Price & Rory Mckerlich (Cardiff Athletics). Each winner has made an impact within there athletics community by mentoring new volunteers.

Five athletes were recognised for their fantastic performances and dedication to their sport. Jack Organ (Brecon AC) was recognised for his successful year being awarded Junior Male Rising Star. Over the past 12 months, Welsh athletes have shone on both national and international stages, showcasing remarkable talent and pride.

We had the presence of many of the Welsh representatives of the World and European Athletics championships. Jeremiah Azu clean sweep of indoor titles, cumulating in World Indoor 60m Gold. Millie Courtney Bryant success at Europeans Indoors in Apledoorn winning Silver in the 3000m. Abi Pawlett Heptathlon Silver at the European U23’s and World Championships Debut. World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi. Wales had eight Welsh para-athletes representing. Sabrina Fortune Gold in the F20 Shot in a new world record of 16.75m. Michael Jenkins bronze in the F38 shot and Aled Davies winning his seventh consecutive F63 shot title. Harrison Walsh 5th at Delhi. Fumni Oduwaije F44 Shot bronze medal. Bree Cronin a debutant and 5th place.

Another brilllant part of the night was the Mind charity raffle with a total of £1,239 raised.
