Meet our new Club Modernisation & Facilities Co-Ordinator

Emyr Jones this month has joined Welsh Athletics as our new Club Modernisation & Facilities Co-ordinator.
Emyr’s role is to support the modernisation and development of the club structure across Wales. This includes supporting clubs with targets such as governance improvements, membership growth, and the recruitment and retention of volunteers. Emyr also helps implement the Welsh Athletics facilities strategy.

Favourite Sporting moment from 2023?
Smashing Australia 40-6 in the Rugby World Cup (even better because I got to see it live!).
Hobbies?
Most of my hobbies revolve around sport. I’m at my happiest lying on a sofa watching pretty much any sport that’s on the telly. When the weather isn’t too bad – I’ll occasionally venture out to one of the stadiums in Cardiff to watch some football or rugby.
I used to play rugby in my younger days. Career highlights include being Pwllheli RFC u’12s Most Improved Player 2003. More recently I have gotten slightly obsessed with cycling and triathlon, which is great for keeping fit, especially in Wales where it’s impossible to cycle more than 5 miles without climbing a hill.
Favourite thing about Wales?
Hard to pick one – but the scenery is spectacular. You’re never too far away from a stunning mountain hike or a beach/coastline.
