The past 12 months has seen significant investment and progress to athletics facilities across Wales, with funding secured and upgrades completed to ensure they remain fit for competition and community use well into the future. Here’s a look at some key updates:

Stadiwm CSM, Eirias Park, Conwy

This summer, Stadiwm CSM at Eirias Park underwent a transformative £330,000 refurbishment funded by the Conwy County Borough Council, with the support of a grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The works included a full resurfacing of the track, as well as upgrades to the jump areas and steeplechase pit.

On the project, Welsh Athletics CEO James Williams:
“Stadiwm CSM in Parc Eirias is a key facility in the region, and one that has historically played a key role in the development of the sport across North Wales. It is superb to see the investment that safeguards the facility from an athletics perspective for the years ahead.

“I hope that the refurbished facility will be the catalyst for further growth in physical activity and physical literacy opportunities for young people across the region. I am also looking forward to seeing licensed athletics competitions returning here in the years ahead”

Haverfordwest Athletics Track, Pembrokeshire

A joint effort between Welsh Athletics and Pembrokeshire County Council over the past year has secured £192,000 Capital Grant from Sport Wales for upgrades to the Haverfordwest Track. The planned works include a professional deep clean, surface repairs, and a full respray of the track.

Scheduled for completion in 2025, these upgrades will enhance the venue’s ability to host events and improve the experience for users, not least the resident athletics club, Pembrokeshire Harriers.

Cwrt Herbert Track, Neath

Following a successful funding bid by Welsh Athletics, in partnership with Neath Port Talbot Council, a £225,000 Sport Wales Capital Grant has been secured for the resurfacing of the Cwrt Herbert Track.

With a contractor and supplier now appointed, Welsh Athletics is pleased to confirm that the project is moving forward, with completion scheduled for 2025. As a key priority for investment, the track and the local athletic community stand to benefit greatly from these essential upgrades.

We would like to thank our partners, including local authorities, facility operators, clubs and Sport Wales, for their support in securing funding and delivering these vital upgrades to the nation’s athletics facilities. We look forward to continuing this collaboration in the year ahead.
